determinants of aerobic exercise slideshare
What factors determine if an exercise program is aerobic?
The criterion measure for aerobic capacity is the peak oxygen consumption (VO2), which can be measured either through graded exercise ergometry or treadmill protocols with an oxygen consumption analyzer or via mathematical formulas.
"Aerobic" means "in the presence of, or with, oxygen." You know you're doing aerobic exercise when your heart's thumping and you're breathing faster than you do at rest but you can sustain the activity for extended periods of time.
What are the determinants of aerobic fitness?
Light physical activity is defined as requiring 3 METs, moderate as 3–6 METs, and vigorous as 6 METs.
V̇o2 max is influenced by age, sex, exercise habits, heredity, and cardiovascular clinical status.
What determines aerobic fitness?
Aerobic fitness depends upon the components of oxygen delivery and the oxidative mechanisms of the exercising muscle.
Peak oxygen uptake is recognised as the best single criterion of aerobic fitness but it is strongly correlated with body size.
