What is the relationship between a continuous and a discrete Fourier transform?
Fig 1: Relationship between the (continuous) Fourier transform and the discrete Fourier transform. Left: A continuous function (top) and its Fourier transform (bottom). Center-left: Periodic summation of the original function (top). Fourier transform (bottom) is zero except at discrete points.
What is the Fourier series representation for periodic sequences?
In this lecture we introduce the Fourier series representation for periodic sequences. In the next lecture the Fourier series will be applied to developing a Fourier representation of finite length sequences, referred to as the Discrete Fourier Transform by utilizing the fact that finite length and periodic sequences are closely related.
