What is accelerated bootstrap?
Accelerated bootstrap – The bias-corrected and accelerated (BCa) bootstrap, by Efron (1987), adjusts for both bias and skewness in the bootstrap distribution. This approach is accurate in a wide variety of settings, has reasonable computation requirements, and produces reasonably narrow intervals.
Is Efron's percentile method good?
In asymptotically normal situations, Efron's (1982) percentile method, foreshadowed by the example in Remark D of Sec. 8, turns out not to be best. His later BCa method makes the bias and skewness adjustments required by the asymptotics, at the cost of mixing some complicated algebra with the elegance of the pure bootstrap approach.
When is Bootstrap useful?
In particular, the bootstrap is useful when there is no analytical form or an asymptotic theory (e.g., an applicable central limit theorem) to help estimate the distribution of the statistics of interest. This is because bootstrap methods can apply to most random quantities, e.g., the ratio of variance and mean.
