How do you answer English Language Paper 1?
Use a wide range of vocabulary, sentence structures and literary devices – this is your opportunity to show off Make sure you have read the question carefully – it's important that your writing fits the task given.

For example: The writer says Holmes 'had started running swiftly over the moor'.
The adverb 'swiftly' emphasises that Holmes is moving very fast and this speed shows his desperation.
When we are told that he is 'like a man distracted' it has the effect of making us realise that Holmes felt very upset.How to get top marks in English Language Paper 1?
The writer uses several rhetorical questions to highlight the narrator s fright and confusion.
The narrator asks: What is it? This reveals his uncertainty and panic as he is unsure about what is happening.
