enzyme hydrolysis
Why is enzymatic hydrolysis important in bioethanol production?
Taking enzymatic hydrolysis into account in the bioethanol production process is advantageous since it is low cost, causes low corrosion, is not toxic, and does not cause inhibition, all this in comparison with acid hydrolysis . To design this step, specific enzymes for the substrate type have to be considered.
What type of hydrolysis occurs in water?
Salts: Hydrolysis occurs when salt from a weak base or acid dissolves in liquid. When this occurs, water spontaneously ionizes into hydroxide anions and hydronium cations. This is the most common type of hydrolysis. Acid: Water can act as an acid or a base, according to the Bronsted-Lowry acid theory.
Why should enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation be separated?
Separate enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation facilitates optimum favorable conditions for both separately. The glucose produced from hydrolysis has inhibitory effects on the enzymatic actions of cellulase β- and glucosidase enzymes and to get good yields of fermentable sugars, additional enzyme loadings to the reactor are required.
