You may have a higher-than-average risk of certain autoimmune diseases, such as ankylosing spondylitis and reactive arthritis.- A positive test for HLA-B27 could bias the diagnostic process toward attributing back pain to spondyloarthritis. Conversely, a negative test for HLA-B27 could unconsciously bias a clinician against making a diagnosis of spondyloarthritis for a patient with mild, chronic back pain.
