In Texas, there’s a little obstacle known as a “switch hold” that might get in the way of you changing your electricity provider. This temporary barrier on your electric meter is typically slapped on when there’s an unpaid balance on your account or if you haven’t met certain obligations with your current retail electric provider.

Who is certifying a switch hold?
It is issued by the City or the County and each local government has varying qualifications prior to issuing. Certification date on the form must be after the date the Switch Hold was applied to the service address. Please note, the name on any of the above documents must be the same as on the New Occupancy Statement.
