Is there a printable backpacking checklist PDF?
I turned the image below into a printable Backpacking Checklist PDF to make your gear prep a little easier. I recommend checking items off as you pack them. I also have a ton of other useful information in this guide so stick around and keep learning even after you have the checklist.
What are the backpacking essentials?
The backpacking essentials are some of the core items (and often the heaviest items) you’ll have in your backpack. How to pack for a backpacking trip?
Backpacking trips over a week usually involve creating and following an itinerary so you cover certain distances each day so, by the time you run out of food, you will be at or close to your resupply point. Packing for long duration trips are pretty straightforward. Use the essentials gear list and supplement with the items you need more of.
How many liters should a backpack hold?
A backpacking pack that holds 30–50 liters is about right for overnight trips; go with packs in the upper end of that range if you’ll be out for two or three nights. For more details, read How to Choose a Backpack. For the trail, pack snacks like energy bars, jerky, hard cheeses and nuts that you can eat easily on the move.
