What is IAS 39?
Under IAS 39, investments in equity instruments and derivatives (whether assets or liabilities) that are linked to and must be settled by delivery of unquoted equity instruments that do not have a quoted market price in an active market, and whose fair value cannot be reliably measured, could be measured at cost.

When can a fair value option be applied under IAS 39?
Under IAS 39, the fair value option for financial assets can also be applied when the asset is part of a group of assets or assets and liabilities that is managed on a fair value basis or when it has an embedded derivative that is not closely related.
