When you are put on a performance improvement plan

A performance improvement plan (PIP), also known as a performance action plan, is a tool to give an employee with performance deficiencies the opportunity to succeed. It may be used to address failures to meet specific job goals or to ameliorate behavior-related concerns.

Can you survive PIP?

A PIP doesn't mean you're going to be fired. In fact, it's actually a good sign that the company wants to help you improve things. Rather than firing you outright, they want to help you develop in your role. So, try to look at it through a more positive lens … and take some deep breaths.

What do you say in a PIP meeting?

State your acceptance of the PIP's findings and ask for any clarifications. When you're ready to meet with your boss to talk about the PIP, don't be confrontational or apologetic. Be calm, serious, direct, and businesslike. Let them know clearly that you accept the PIP and want to move forward from that point.
