Life began billions of years ago, and hasn't stopped. There is nothing supernatural that happens at conception. Merely life branching off, just like it does every time any other cell splits. Humans continue to develop and gain complexity from conception until they are 25 or so. Where we draw the line of personhood is arbitrary.
