What is the new blood test for cancer?

GRAIL's Galleri test, named one of Time magazine's best inventions of 2022 and a breakthrough of the year from The Atlantic, is a multi-cancer early detection (MCED) blood test to spot early signals in the blood that are associated with many cancers.

Can cancer be detected by blood test?

Most blood tests aren't used on their own to diagnose cancer. But they can provide clues that may lead your health care team to make the diagnosis. For most types of cancer, a procedure to remove a sample of cells for testing is often needed to be sure.

Can I get Galleri blood test?

The Galleri test is recommended for adults with an elevated risk for cancer, such as those aged 50 or older. Only your healthcare provider can determine if Galleri is right for you. Use of Galleri is not recommended in individuals who are pregnant, 21 years old or younger, or undergoing active cancer treatment.

How do I get on the NHS Galleri trial?

If you're aged 50 to 77 and the study is coming to a place near you you'll get a letter and then it's very easy – you can phone up or you can go on the internet to respond to say, 'yes, I'd like to take part. ' It's purely voluntary but they will be helping, possibly themselves and, more likely, the next generation.
