Among the institutes mentioned above Andhra University is the to introduce Geophysics course. To know more about the university and the examinations please use the link given.

M.Sc., (Tech) Vs M.Sc.

M.Sc., course is two years whereas M.Sc., (Tech) is 3 years. If a student is interested in research then Tech course will be better as Tech students are given preference while joining as Junior Research Fellow or PhD in Abroad. There is a full six month project in Tech courses so students can have hands on experience. .͵{ĭ͵Ͳ ΛtŷǤƭźĭƭΜ .͵{ĭ͵Ͳ

Depends upon the college you are attending. Mainly course of geophysics has been offered by ISM Dhanbad, IIT Roorkee, IIT Kharaghpur and Osmania University (There might be several other institutes offering the course but these are the best). I should not say every one gets placement in these colleges but most of them do. Also being a basic science course you can also opt for research carrier in this interesting field. Package depends upon which type of profile you get. Packages more than 20 lpa is not uncommon for the field profile. And in office also, you should expect salary more than that of most of the IT people ( around 10 lpa). There are also several PSU like ONGC, CIL ,GSI ect who conducts examination for the geoscience graduates.

Geophysics course is offered by several institutes in India like ism dhanbad , iitr , iitb , iit kharagpur , bhu , kuruksshetra university , Andhra and osmania university ( I might be missing some name ). Duration of the course might be from 2 years to 5 years depending upon you join after 12th or graduation. Coming to the career options available in this field , after being graduated there are two things you can go for research. Since you asked about options in India , there are institutes like NGRI, NIO, IIGM and above mentioned universities as well who provide you research facilities in this field. If you are looking for job options there are PSU like ongc , oil , iocl and sometimes GAIL who take students from campus or through gate examination. Since last 3 years geological survey of India has also started taking geoscientist through

UPSC organized exams.

There are few private companies operating in India who hire through campus placements. Packages are varied depending upon the companies. Few may get above 10 lpa to around 17 lpa in private companies ( but not everyone is lucky enough to get such offers , it is sad but true ). !1. #Ɏ.//.134-(3($2Ɏ

I would say any large research oriented university in North America, Europe or Asia. The specific institute really depends on where you want to take your career and what are your research interests. If you are considering a career in resource extraction or environmental hydrogeology where you are using or developing the methods of applied geophysics then any of the universities that have a strong applied geophysics group. In the U.S. Colorado School of Mines, Stanford University, U of Missouri Rolla etc.. In Canada, that would Waterloo, Queens, University of Toronto, University of Alberta, University of Calgary, U of Saskatchewan and UBC. In Europe, France has very good schools like Ecole Superieur des Mines. In the UK., Cambridge, Imperial Colledge, Bristol, Durham all have excellent reputations. Germany and the Nertlands also have excellent schools and I would be remiss to fail to mention any of the universities in Norway. If you interests are more academic and your more interested in for example Planetary Dynamics then many of the prestige research schools are where you want to go. In the US examples are UCLA, Caltech, Harvard, MIT, Cornell, U of Colorado Boulder, Rice

University etc..

In Canada, UBC, U of Alberta, University of Toronto, McGill, Dalhousie for example. Europe: Institue de Physique du Globe (Strasbourg, France), Cambridge etc.. I have not mentioned any of the institutes/universities in Asia only because I am less aware of them but that should not be taken as a slight. I know both Japan and China have very strong groups in all of those disciplines. It's only my ignorance that prevents me from mentioning specific examples. %.1Ɏ" 1$$1Ɏ Robert McGrory, Professional geophysicist with over 23 years of experience

For careers in geophysics you need well funded political systems that are very stable because geophysical research and or geophysical data collection is a very expensive process in general and must be done over many years sometimes decades. There are exceptions to this of course but in general that is an accurate statement. Therefore, North America and Europe rise to the top because they have the stability of their political systems that in general guarantee secure long term funding of scientific research. Consequently universities in these jurisdictions have stable platforms of funding as well. The business environment is backed up by clear regulatory processes that also enable investor to make long term investment decision (in general) that enable economic activities that promote the spending of capital on expensive geophysical activities. Apart from Europe and N.A., parts of Asia (China and Japan) have very well funded geophysical research centered around resources extraction and hazard assessment. The middle east (Saudi, UAE, Oman) are very active in the resource sector (oil and gas). Jesse Lawrence, CEO @ Boulder BITS a Startup Studio, Ex-Professor @ Stanford, Nonlinear

As an ex-professor of Geophysics at Stanford, I can state without equivocation that there are no limits on what one can/can't do with any major - including a geophysics major. I've worked on lots of projects in and out of geophysics, ranging from video technology, speech recognition, deep data analytics, educational technology, advertising and human interface devices. The knowledge you gain in time series analysis can be applied to the stock market. The physics you learn could be used towards kinematic modeling of the human body or designing bridges. I received a Major in Economics and got a PhD in Earth and Planetary science with an emphasis in Geophysics. A major is a transitional learning time, in which you're expected to try things on. The best experiences are internships, which tell you more about yourself in a possible job than anything you do in school. My recommendation is to learn what you like and don't like. Just do challenging things that make your brain go into high gear. Strengthen your mind. Then you'll be prepared with a stronger mind for the next task. Career choices of some geophysics students I knew: - Oil & Gas, - Research Labs, - Academia (PhD/postdoc/Prof/researcher) - Environmental remediation - Hydrologists (help find water anywhere) - Accountant - Research - Museum Founder - Programmer at
