1) There are 4 undergraduate majors within the department of Allied Health Sciences.

a. Allied Health Sciences (AHS) b. Dietetics (DIET) c. Diagnostic Genetic Sciences (DGS) d. Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS)

2) Allied Health Sciences major:

a. Designed for: i. Students who are interested in pursuing a career in healthcare but not sure what. ii. Students seeking employment in health care. iii. Students pursuing admission to graduate professional health programs b. Admission: upon entry to the university or by competitive admission from other majors within the university. i. Fall 2021 application deadline for internal applicants: Monday, September 6th

ii. On-line application submission only (We do not accept mail, fax or hand delivered applications).

iii. Spring 2021 admission stats: Cum GPA 3.63 (fall 2020: 3.47) Science GPA 3.62 (Fall 2020: 3.36) Accepted 58% of applicants a. 23% from regional campuses; 77% Storrs b. Largest group sophomore standing at 54% c. Waterbury Campus: The Allied Health Sciences major on the WTBY campus is doing well. Tamara Kaliszewski (Tamara.kaliszewski@uconn.edu) serves as advisor and resource to students, faculty and staff. Management related to the major will process through her office and the department on the Storrs campus. Enrollment is ever rising, with 3 graduates in May 2021. Dr. Ngozi Chima a new faculty will begin in fall 2021. AHS course offerings are increasing at this campus (3-4 next academic year).

3) Professional majors (DIET, DGS and MLS): No program changes for 2021-2022

a. Competitive admission - junior/senior programs b. Requires a supplemental application in spring sophomore year c. Students graduate with the major and sit for their respective professional licensure d. Dr. Bruce Blanchard will assume the role of MLS program director beginning in July 2021. Rosanne

Lipcius is retiring this summer.

e. Denise Anamani is the new program director for DGS.

4) Graduate/Post-Baccalaureate Programs

5) Academic Advising Center - staffed by 8 advisors whose primary responsibility is to assist students to explore

career options and decide on a major. a. Dr. Adeleye Adaralegbe joined the advising faculty in fall 2020! b. Plan is to resume in -person advising in the fall. (By appointment in Koons 100); NEXUS not open to non-

majors during peak advising times (first week of classes and the 5 weeks prior to registration); drop-in
