BRIEFDESCRIPTIONOFPOSITION:
TheCounselor,underthedirectsupervisionofthePrincipal,workswithstudents,parentsandstaffandcommunity
memberstoassiststudentsinmakingdecisionsandtoutilizeeducationalopportunitiestothefullest.TheCounseloris
anintegralpartoftheleadershipteamofACE andworkswiththePrincipaltobuildrelationshipsandpartnershipswith thecommunity,localbusinessandinstitutionsofhigherlearninginsupportoftheMissionandVisionofACE.
MAJORDUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Plans,organizes,deliversandevaluatesacomprehensiveguidanceprogramthatimpactsallstudentsinacademic
achievement,career planning,andpersonal/socialdevelopment.
2. Assumesappropriateresponsibilityfor
providingsupporttotheprincipalasneededinsupportofthemissionand visionofACE.
3. Informsstudentsandparentsofthecourseworkandacademicprogressneededforsatisfactorycompletionofhigh
school,courseworkrequiredforpostsecondaryeducation,andtheavailabilityofcareertechnicaleducation.
4. Identifiesstudentsrequiringassistance;determineswhatisneededforstudentsuccess;developsandimplements
plansforstudentsnotmeetingacademicexpectations.
5. Evaluatesstudents'previouseducationalexperiencesandworkswithindividualstudentstoclearlyidentifythe
appropriateeducationaloutcomewithinthecareerpathwaysidentifiedinthemissionandvisionofACE.
6. Monitorsandgeneratesavarietyofreportsbasedonstudentachievementdatainordertofacilitateahighly
effectiveprofessionallearningcommunity atACE.
7. Usesdatainplanningandimplementingstrategiesforimprovementofactivitiesandtoensurethateverystudent
receivesthebenefitsoftheschoolcounselingprogram.
8. Usescounselingskillstofacilitatestudents'personalproblemͲsolving;providescrisiscounselingforstudents.
9. Servesasaneffectiveliaisonbetweentheschool,districtandcommunityagencies,students,staff,parents,and
community.Facilitatescommunicationsrelatedtointernships,businesspartnerships,postsecondaryopportunitiesanddonationsinsupportofthemissionandvisionofACE.
10. Continuestorenewandacquireprofessionalcompetenciesapplicabletoschoolcounseling;keepsupdatedon
currentpractices,theories,issuesandtrendsinstudentsupportprograms.
11. Coordinatesthesuccessfuladministrationofstandardizedtesting,includingCST,CELDT,CAHSEE,AP,EAP,PE,Etc.
12. Providesinterventionandbehavioralsupporttostudentsforinappropriatebehavior.
13. Workswithteacherstofacilitatetheinternshipsforseniors:includingeventsduringthesummerandduringthe
schoolyear.
OTHERDUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Servesascasecarrierforstudentswith504plans.
2. Establisheseffective
professionalrelationshipsandconsultswithstaffonstudentand schoolissuesandprograms.
3. Coordinates/participatesinStudentStudyTeammeetings.
4. Assistswithcampussupervisionduringbreaks,lunch,beforeandafterschool.
5. Conductsindividualandgroupcounseling/guidanceeffortsforstudents.
6. Performsothertasksandassumesresponsibilitiesasmaybeassignedbyproperauthority.
7. ServesasamemberoftheschoolsitecouncilforTitleIpurposes.
