EXEMPTION TEST INFORMATION FORM

ALHS 1090 -
MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY A currently enrolled or accepted program student may receive course credit by passing the

ALHS 1090

exemption examination administered by the Gwinnett Technical College

Assessment Center. The policy

regarding Experiential Credit and Credit by Examination is in the College catalog. The examination must

be completed prior to registration for the class for which the student is seeking credit by examination.

Students may not request exemption tests for courses in which they have been enrolled nor may they take an exemption test more than once. The ALHS 1090 exemption examination will cover these competencies:

A. WORD ORIGINS (ROOTS, PREFIXES, AND SUFFIXES)

1. Define terms pertaining to the body as a whole.

2. Explain derivation of medical terms.

3. Define word roots, prefixes, and suffixes.

4. Explain the conventions for combining morphemes and the formation of plurals.

5. Pronounce basic medical terms.

6. Identify adjective endings.

7. Identify noun endings.

8. Identify prefixes of position, color, number and measurement, negation, and direction.

B. WORD BUILDING

1. Form medical terms utilizing roots.

2. Form medical terms utilizing suffixes.

3. Form medical terms utilizing prefixes.

4. Form medical terms combining roots, prefixes, and suffixes. 5. Interpret basic medical

abbreviations. C. TERMINOLOGY RELATED TO THE HUMAN ANATOMY & MEDICAL SPECIALTIES
