Most states do not require you have more than a basic Class D license for driving your RV simply because CDLs are required for vehicles over 26,000 lbs, and it is unlikely your Class B or C RV/travel trailer is over that weight limit.

    In most states and with most RV types, you will not need a special license to drive your RV. We recommend checking your state’s DMV for the exact requirements, as each state has its own rules regarding RVs and special licenses. There are a few states where RVers may need to update their license to accommodate their RV type.

Do You need A CDL for a RV?

    You do not need a CDL license in the United States to drive your class C RV through any states; the CDL is only required in some states when the RV reaches a certain weight and length limit. If you plan to tow something behind the RV, you will potentially need a CDL as this increases the weight/length.
