Course objective:
The course will be a three day event with the objective to promote the establishment of i) Aerodrome Obstacle Charts ( Type A and Type B), ii) obstacle limitation surfaces that define the limits to which objects may project into the airspace and iii) Hot spots on aerodrome charts to prevent runway incursions.Course Outline:
The proposed course in general will explain the drafting of the aerodrome obstacle charts as detailed inChapters 3, 4 and 5 of ICAO Annex 4.
The course will also assist in the establishment/charting of "hot spots" on aerodrome charts as mentioned in PANS -ATM (Chapter 7) and Annex 4 - Aeronautical charts(Chapters 13,14 & 15).
ICAO Type A (Operating Limitations) is made available for all aerodromes regularly used by international
civil aviation, except for those aerodromes where there are no significant obstacles in the take-off flight
path areas. The charts depict a plan and profile of each runway, any associated stop way or clearway, the takeoff flight path area and significa nt obstacles. ICAO Type A charts provide the data necessary toenable an operator to comply with the operating limitations of Annex 6, Parts I & II, chapter 5 and Part
III, Chapter 3.
ICAO Type B charts
provide information to satisfy the following: The determination of minimum safe altitudes/heights including those for circling procedures; The determination of procedures for use in the event of an emergency during take-off and landing; The application of obstacle clearing and marking criteria; The provision of source material for aeronautical charts ICAO Type B charts should be made available for all aerodromes regularly used by international civil aviation.Scope:
The scope of the course will cover the definition of obstacles, take off flight path area and the calculation of declared distances for each direction of the runway and associated symbols for use oncharts. In addition, participants will learn about obstacle limitation surfaces (OLS) from aerodrome
criteria and OLS from PANS-OPS criteria. The participants will get an overall picture to define the airspace around aerodromes to be maintained free from obstacles so as to permit the intended aero- plane operations at the aerodromes to be conducted safely. The course activity will comprise lectures, presentations and workshop activity to introduce training
materials to participants.References:
