Program Title: Emergency Medical Services Certificate and Associate Degree

Expected Learning Outcomes:

1. Demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy and physiology, and the underlying

pathophysiology of various medical and traumatic conditions.

2. Provide appropriate patient care with respect for diverse cultures, values and beliefs.

3. Integrate comprehensive knowledge of pre-hospital pharmacology to formulate a treatment plan

intended to mitigate emergencies and improve the overall health of the patient.

4. Integrate scene and patient assessment findings with knowledge of epidemiology and

pathophysiology to form a field impression.

5. Integrates assessment findings with principles of epidemiology and pathophysiology to

formulate a field impression and implement a comprehensive treatment/disposition plan for a patient with a medical complaint.

6. Given a variety of scenarios conduct assessments and use critical thinking to manage scenes,

determine proper patient care, and evaluate changing conditions.

7. Apply local, state, and federal law and protocols to prehospital practice.

8. Competently perform all paramedic skills

9. Demonstrate collaborative skills, including communication, documentation and teamwork in the

field of paramedicine.

10. Demonstrate consistent positive behavioral characteristics (Affective Domain).

11. Demonstrate effective use of equipment and resources.

paramedic, and medical-legal and ethical issues, which is intended to improve the health of the

EMS personnel, patients and the community.

formulate a field impression to implement a comprehensive treatment /disposition plan for an acutely injured patient.

13. Sit for the NREMT-P Examinations.

Assessment (How do or will students demonstrate achievement of each outcome?) Student are prepared for the NREMT paramedic Cognitive exam by preparing for the FISDAP Comprehensive exam. This exam is valid and reliable through years of pilot testing across the nation, through FISDAP. Students are prepared for the NREMT Psychomotor exam in EMS 221 Seminar in the last semester of the Paramedic Program. Validation (What methods have you used or will you use to validate your assessment?)

100% (10/10) of the students were successful in the NR Psychomotor exam. 90% of students

(9/10) who take the NREMT exams were successfully certified. Results (What do your assessment data show? If you have not yet assessed student achievement of your learning outcomes, when is assessment planned?) 93% of students who graduated in May 2014 were certified as of September 2014, with one student yet to pass the cognitive portion of the exam. Of the students who have taken both portions of the NREMT paramedic tests, 93% have been certified. Follow-up (How have you used or how will you use the data to improve student learning?) Donnie Lehman, Donna Carey, Doug Walker, Paul Cissel, and Kris Martin attended a faculty meeting on July 17, 2014. Donnie Lehman and Robert Cathor Fall faculty meeting to discuss lesson plans on Oct 17, 2014. Students are prepared for the NREMT paramedic Cognitive exam by preparing for the FISDAP Comprehensive exam. This exam is valid and reliable through years of pilot testing across the nation, through FISDAP. Students are prepared for the NREMT Psychomotor exam in EMS 221 Seminar in the last semester of the Paramedic Program.
