What is API threads?

The steel pipe ends with internal thread to connect with the upper and lower casing. In order to ensure the joint tightness, the precision of screw thread is strictly required. API Threads is for the threads manufactured and inspected under API 5B. Couplings shall not be expanded to provide required threads taper under API specifications.

How does ThreadDeath work?

The thread represented by this thread is forced to stop whatever it is doing abnormally and to throw a newly created ThreadDeath object as an exception. It is permitted to stop a thread that has not yet been started. If the thread is eventually started, it immediately terminates.

What is a thread in Java?

A thread is a thread of execution in a program. The Java Virtual Machine allows an application to have multiple threads of execution running concurrently. Every thread has a priority. Threads with higher priority are executed in preference to threads with lower priority. Each thread may or may not also be marked as a daemon.

What is the target of a thread's run method?

target - the object whose run method is invoked when this thread is started. If null, this thread's run method is invoked. SecurityException - if the current thread cannot create a thread in the specified thread group or cannot override the context class loader methods.

The thread compounds listed in this document have been validated per ISO 13679 / API RP 5C5 testing conditions, i.e. to a minimum of 2 Make- and-Break + 1 Final Make-Up for Casing sizes, and 9 Make-and-Break + 1 Final Make-Up for Tubing sizes (exceptions may apply depending on sizes and grades, typically for high-Chrome material that usually have a higher sensitivity to galling). Temperature limitations are provided for information purpose only. Although the target remains to validate a thread design to the same level of performances (including test temperature) accross the whole range of sizes, some critical combinations of OD/weight/grade/CAL level/compound reference may lead to consider reduction to the temperature applied during testing. 3 Note about 'API Modified' thread compounds

All VAM® connections can be used with 'API Modified' thread compounds conforming to API RP 5A3 (except a few references that are not approved - see hereafter). 'API Modified' should be understood as thread compounds for which laboratory performances comply with API RP 5A3, and whose chemical composition is in accordance with Annex B of API RP 5A3. However, thread compounds whose composition is only compliant with Annex A of API RP 5A3 are not recommended unless they have been qualified on VAM® products (the content of Annex A of API RP 5A3 could formerly be found in API BUL 5A2, now obsolete). Examples of approved and commonly used 'API Modified' thread compound references: - BESTOLIFE 72733 - BESTOLIFE API Modified - BESTOLIFE 304-ST - JET-LUBE API Modified High-Pressure - WEATHERFORD Lubeseal

2 Note about 'Yellow' thread compounds

Several thread compounds classified as 'Yellow' per OSPAR ranking can be used on VAM® connections, but the connections' sensitivity to galling may be increased when such compounds are combined with S13Cr and CRA materials (then reducing, in some cases, the validated number of Make- and-Break as described in Note 1 above). With regard to Sealability, temperature limitations may apply when testing some designs with Yellow thread compounds to the highest levels of ISO /

API protocols.
