  • The Actual Raw to Scaled Conversion Method Is A Secret

The actual raw to scaled conversion method is a secret. As indicated, every test has a different conversion. This means that sometimes you need to answer every single question correctly to get a perfect score, but sometimes you can make a few mistakes and still get a perfect score. The conversion is based on the difficulty of the specific test. Her...

  • A Rough Raw-To-Scaled Reading Chart Without Ranges

If you want to score a practice set and the creators have not provided a conversion chart, you can make your own “best guess” chart using basic math. Here’s the easy formula: (RAW/33) * 30 = SCALED. Round the fractions. If your practice test contains extra questions adjust as needed. Here’s what I came up with:

  • A Rough Raw-To-Scaled Listening Chart Without Ranges

Likewise, you can make a basic conversion chart for the listening section of the TOEFL with the following formula: (RAW/28) * 30 = SCALED. That chart looks like this:

Did you pass the TOEFL?

Did you pass? There are no passing or failing scores set by the TOEFL Program or ETS. Each institution or agency sets its own score requirements. For more information about how your scores will be used or interpreted, contact the institution or agency directly.

What if a TOEFL listening section has 34 questions?

If a TOEFL Listening section has 34 questions and you get 31 of them correct, your raw score for that section would be a 31 (assuming all questions are worth 1 point, which we discuss more in the next section). However, you won’t see a 31 on your TOEFL score report, instead, you’ll see a scaled score between 0 and 30.

How many questions do you answer in TOEFL?

In the TOEFL reading section you answer 30 questions, worth up to 33 points. This is your raw reading score. In the TOEFL listening section you answer 28 questions, worth up to 28 points. This is your raw listening score. For your final score report these are each converted to scores out of 30. These are called your scaled scores.

What is IBT TOEFL reading score?

Many prestigious colleges often have ibt TOEFL reading score requirements that require a student to be at least between the intermediate to high-level TOEFL score range. The study goal is to get between 22 – 30 points for TOEFL reading section scoring. This particular score range will help give you a high level of the TOEFL reading section.

Performance of Reference Groups

on the Paper-based TOEFL Test

The data presented here are based on TOEFL test

scores obtained by examinees from July 1996 through June 1997. It should be noted that this test record database includes both first-time test takers and repeating examinees.

These tables simply summarize the performance of

self-selected groups of examinees who took the paper- based TOEFL test during the period specified; the data are not necessarily representative of the general

TOEFL population. In some countries, for example,

virtually any high school, university, or graduate student who aspires to study in the United States or

Canada may take the test. In other countries,

government policies may regulate who takes the test. Table 1 gives actual ranges of observed scores for the period from July 1996 through June 1997.Table 2 shows the percentile ranks for section and total scaled scores for the total group. In Tables 3-6, examinees have been classified by their reason for taking the test (information supplied by them when they took it).Table 1. Minimum and Maximum
