Applications
Preferences
RMI Port Range Configuration
Users can now specify a range of RMI ports to be used for communication between the OmniVista Client and
Server. An option is available in the Server Preferences Screen in the Preference Application that can be used to
specify a range of RMI Ports. In addition, a field has been added to the Users Tab of the Control Panel Application
that displays total RMI Port usage. If the configured RMI Ports reach 90 percent of the capacity, the field turns Red
and a Warning Message is displayed in the Status Area a the bottom of the screen. The user can then modify the
RMI Port Range to accommodate the increased usage.Resource Manager
The OmniVista 2500 TFTP Server Code Library transfer limit has been increased from 32 MB to 4GB per RFC
2347.SIP The SIP MOS value range has been modified to the standard range of 0 - 5.
Telnet
Global Scripting Feature
Users can now create "Global" Telnet scripts. In previous releases, Telnet scripts were only stored on the local
client. Users now have the option of storing Telnet scripts on the OmniVista Server so they are available to any user
connected to the server. A "Shared" checkbox option has been added to the "Create Scripts" Tab in the Telnet
application.Topology
Fiber Channel Gateway Support
OmniVista 2500 NMS now supports Fiber Channel Gateways (configured in the VLANs application) on OS6900
switches running AOS 7.3.3.R01. Fiber Channel configurations are displayed in new FIP Snooping tabs in the
Chassis View of the Topology application, and a new DCB node has been added to the Topology application to
configure Data Center Bridging. The OmniSwitch implementation of Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) Initiation
Protocol (FIP) Snooping supports the FCoE technology used to tunnel Fibre Channel frames within Ethernet MAC
frames. When the FCoE and FIP snooping functionality is enabled, the OmniSwitch serves as an FCoE transit
switch. In this role, the OmniSwitch implementation of Data Center Bridging (DCB) is also used to provide the
lossless Ethernet network required to support FCoE.This implementation of FIP Snooping ensures the security of the FCoE network and maintains a virtual point-to-
point network connection between FCoE Nodes (ENodes) and FCoE Forwarder (FCF) devices. An FCoEOmniVista 3.5.7 Release Notes
4OmniSwitch between ENodes (servers or other bridges) and a third-party FCF can extend the reach of the FCoE
network without extending the physical Fibre Channel (FC) connections.Split Stack Protection Feature
OmniVista 2500 NMS supports the "Split Stack Protection" feature available on OS 6850E devices running AOS
6.4.6.R01. If there is a link failure or a device failure within a stack of devices, the stack may split, resulting in two
stacks having the same system MAC and IP addresses. Since there would be no communication between these
individual stacks due to the stacking link failure, each stack could end up communicating with the rest of the
network using the same MAC and IP addresses leading to Layer 2 loops and L3 traffic disruption. The Split Stack Protection feature resolves this problem. Once a stack split condition is detected, the sub-stack will
put its front-panel ports into an operationally down state preventing traffic forwarding and avoiding loops and
possible traffic disruption. The Stack Split Protection (SSP) link aggregate ports remain up, enabling communication
between the remaining devices, and a trap is sent indicating that a stack split has occurred.OmniVista monitors the stack, and updates the stack status icon if it receives a "split stack" trap from the switch. In
addition, the Stack Icon in the Device Tree and the Map View displays Stack Protection status, and the user can also
mouse-over a stack of devices in Topology for information about the stack. A new Stack tab in Topology also
displays configuration information for a stack and enables to user to enable Split Stack Protection and configure
basic Stack Protection parameters. In addition, Resource Manager operations, such as backup/restore and Upgrade,
will not be allowed if a stack is in a split state.Note: Although releases prior to AOS 6.4.6.R01 do not support Split Stack Protection, OmniVista can detect
a broken loop, either through Discovery or a trap and place the device in "Warning"status to inform the user.
Therefore, it is recommended that stacks are always configured to have a loop to avoid problems later.
