When beginning the

preparation of this report to you, I found it extremely difficult to find the proper words to describe my feelings about the tremendous success of Summer Universiade 2005 held in the

City of Izmir, Turkey, on the shores of the

beautiful Aegean Sea. Those of us who had the opportunity to be present for this event will never forget the enthusiasm and dedication of the Izmir OC in promoting on a daily basis an electrifying sport program.

The spirit of the citizens of Izmir and

surr ounding areas in accepting the

Universiade shall always

live in my memories.

I awoke each morning

as Universiade 2005 unfolded with a sense of extreme pride for the accomplishments of our friends from Turkey.

On Friday

, September

30th, of this year, I had

the pleasure and honour along with our

Secretary General, Roch

Campana, to be in

Brussels, Belgium, for the signing of the

official documents for our new headquar- ters. We announced our plans at the Gen eral Assembly in Izmir of our intention t o make such a purchase. Our current buil ding in Brussels was no longer adequateto properly serve our membership now and in the future. As our overall program has in the last few years grown by leaps and bonds it was necessary for us to make such a move so that we can adequately continue to service the membership of FISU in a pro- fessional w ay. We will update you in the immediate future of our plans to formal dedicate this building.

I have just returned

from the first official visit of the Summer

Universiade Supervision

o Bangkok,

d. It gave myself and the members o f the Commission, the opportunity to meet with all of the govern- mental authorities as well as the Bangkok Organising Committee to begin our work in preparing Summer

Universiade 2007. The preparations of

Univ ersiade 2007 under the leadership of

Deputy Prim

e Minister Suwat Liptapanlop, Pr esident of the BUOC are progressing well. G

All indications are that we will have

another successful Summer Universiade.

The commission had the pleasure of

visiting the Ban Koh Sirae School on

Phuket to donate 100,000 US dollars for

th e construction of a new Physical

Education building. The plans call for

completion in October of 2006. We also visited the Wat Ban Mai School in Sarabaric where we donated 5,000 US dollars for sports and education purposes. Both visits were very heart warming for us all. We will have a complete story on both of these schools in a later edition of our FISU Ma gazine.

Ceux qui ont eu l"occasion d"y participer se souviendront longtemps de l"enthousiasme et du dévouement du Comité d"Organisation qui nous proposa un programme sportif magnifique. L"esprit des citoyens d"Izmir et des environs en faveur de l"Universiade r estera longtemps gravé dans nos mémoires.

Chaque matin de cette Universiade 2005, je

m e suis réveillé avec un sentiment d"extrême fierté en voyant le travail de nos amis turcs.
