DELF - INTERNATIONAL FRENCH LANGUAGE DIPLOMA

Dear Parents of Students in Grade

10,

11 and 12 Core French, French Immersion and

International Baccalaureate (IB) French Courses:

The North Vancouver School District, in collaboration with the Alliance Française de Vancouver would like to offer grade 10, 11 and 12 students enrolled in all French programs the opportunity to participate in an international French language assessment. This assessment will give students an opportunity to obtain a diploma and certification of their competency in the French language. The Dîplome d'études en langue française (DELF) is an internationally recognized series of qualifications awarded to language learners to validate their skills in French. Through an examination of their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills, students can be granted diplomas at various levels. The resulting diploma issued by the French Ministry of

Education is valid for life

and is a recognized qualification in many educati onal and business institutions worldwide. The next series of exams will take place in British Columbia in

May 2016. The exams will

be administered during the regular school day starting at 9:00am on the following dates:

Level B2: Advanced May 9th

*French Immersion - FRAL 12

Level B1: Independent May

10 th *French Immersion - FRAL 11, Core or IB French 11 or 12

Level A2 Intermediate May 11

th *Core or IB French 11 or 12

Level A1 Discovery May 12th

*These are suggested grade levels. Students are encouraged to view practice exams and speak with their teachers in order to decide which DELF level to challenge. The location of the exams in North Vancouver is dependent on the number of student

registrations. The main campus of l'Alliance Française de Vancouver at 6161 Cambie Street, Vancouver is the default location for the exams. Written exams will be administered

in the morning, and oral exams will be administered, by appointment, in the afternoon. Students will be absent from their regular classes on the day of their exam, and will be responsible for ensuring that all of their t eachers are aware of the reason for their absence. Students are also responsible for their own transportation to and from l'Alliance Française

or the North Vancouver exam site. We are hoping that eligible students in grades 10, 11 and 12 will take advantage of this

wonderful opportunity. While the results of the DELF exam have no impact on the students' class grades, or on their graduation requirements, students can use their DELF credentials to earn external credits and as part of university applicat ions.

The cost to

challenge the DELF exam is $100 for levels A1 & A2, and $175 for levels B1 & B2. Exam fees are payable directly to l'Alliance Française de Vancouver. Please see the attached registration form. DELF exam fees are non-refundable. Ple ase complete the attached (electronic) application form and return it with payment to l'Alliance Française de Vancouver by email (info@alliancefrancaise.ca fax (604-327-6606), online (www.alliancefrancaise.ca), or in person at l'Alliance Française de Vancouver (6161 Cambie Street), between March 30 and April 23, 2016. Students who register for the DELF will receive an email with specific information regarding their oral and written exam schedules and locations.

Students are encouraged to

consult with their French teacher, if they have specific questions about the DELF exam.

Thank you,
