In this study, ho w the semiology as a system of communication approaches the literary text and how it is applied to the classroom setting have been studied. In the first chapter, within the theoretical framework, the key words that are used in samples to analyse narrative texts have presented.

In the second chapter,

asa sample semiotic reading, we have examined one of the Guy de Maupassant's stories titled "La Throughout the reading, we have tried to discover the m eaning of the text making use of semiotic diagrams and tabi es.

We have also emphasized the importance

of correct understanding and have drawn attention to the advantages that semiotics offers to the reader as a method of reading. Thus, we have supported our thesis with theoretical explanations where convenient.

In the third chapter, under the title

of "Semiotics in Education" we have read through "Madame Baptiste", another story from the same author. Apart from the "In-class activities", we have also presented exercises based on a variety of literary texts pointing out to the fundamentals of classroom-hased practices. W e focused our attention on the "modality of will" that Guy de Maupassant employs in his story putting an emphasis on intertextual relations around his ten selected stories. ll
