The main theme of OSE 2019 is: Europe in Transition: Impact on Occupation and Health. It is inspiring to see that we have participants from all over the world coming together for two days in Amsterdam. We see the coming two days as an opportunity to explore the impact of global transitions on occupational lives of beyond. 6 T he board of Occupational Science Europe warmly welcome you to this, our 5th biennial conference, hosted by the Department of Occupational Therapy of the University of Applied Science, Amsterdam, The

Netherlands.

Occupational Science Europe was founded following a conference on occupational science held at Plymouth

University, UK, in 2011. The growing interest in

occupational science led to the next conferences at the University of Cork, Ireland in 2013, the University of Bournemouth, UK, in 2015 and the first to be held on mainland Europe at the University of Hildesheim, Germany in 2017. We are delighted to be located this year in the Netherlands, continuing the process of development of the network and occupational science across Europe and across languages. Core to the vision and aims of Occupational Science Europe is the promotion of occupational science as an interdisciplinary network, to be a vibrant community where diverse voices interested in the varied everyday doings, or occupation, that make up the richness and Europe in transition: impact on occupation and health 7 complexity of our daily lives, can come together. This conference focusing on 'Europe in Transition: Impact on occupation and health' enables us to operationalise that vision. Focusing on issues that are at the centre of the daily life of all peoples across Europe at this time, this conference brings together scholars from around the world, from multiple disciplines, supporting theo retical development, critical discourse and the creation of new partnerships and collaborations. The complexity of the issues demand consideration of multiple levels, perspectives and voices and we aspire that this conference will be a space where these may be expressed and heard, and from which each of you will leave enriched by the experience of your participation.

8 We are delighted to welcome you all to the faculty of Health of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS). Amsterdam is the right place for this event: our bustling cosmopolitan city, and capital of The

In our knowledge institution, the connection between education, research and professional practice is a common thread in all curricula and research. Our faculty of Health has four schools with bachelor and master programmes: Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Exercise Therapy and Nursing. Therefore we feel very much honoured that the school of Occupational Therapy with their Bachelor of Science and European Master of Science in Occupational Therapy hosts the 5th Occupational Science Europe Confer- ence 'Europe in transition: Impact on occupation and health'.

Our staff and students see this conference as a
