steady beat by tapping, while singing and chanting and record data. 1-4 Steps in Lesson:Notes:Begin by telling students that today we are going to do an activity, but we need to make sure we all know the Itsy Bitsy Spider song.

2.Teach the students the "Itsy Bitsy Spider" by rote, until they are

comfortable while the song.

3.Ask the student to raise their hands if they can tell "what is this song

about?" "Who is the main character of the song?"

4.Have students make spider fingers, which are curved fingers that tap

gently and silently on their lap.

5.Ask students to make their spider fingers, and we will have our spiders

bounce on our legs all at the same time. Say the word "Bounce" at a medium tempo and let the children settle into the steady beat.

6.Explain that we are making our spiders bounce to the steady beat. A

steady beat is something we use in all our musical songs or rhythms. It is the heart beat of music. We need it to feel how fast the music goes and to keep the song or rhythm alive and moving.

7.Now we are going to using our spider fingers to keep a steady beat

while we chant.

8.Explain that a chant is like a mix between singing and talking. We use

our speaking voices but we say everything in a very clear rhythm all together. It uses long sounds and short sounds.

9.Demonstrate a chant by saying "Sam is a spider"

10.Tell the students that they will repeat or echo that chant after you say it.

11.Repeat the chant again, then cue with hands for the students to repeat.

12.Continue with these lines :

"Spiders are hairy" "Spiders aren't scary" "Spiders have eight legs" "Spiders lay many eggs"

13. Conclude by singing the Itsy Bitsy Spider and keep the steady beat

with the spider hands

14. Say how proud Sam Spider would be to have seen such wonderful

spider fingers to transition out of lesson

Remember to

use a moderate tempo, at a pace which students are able to chant comfortably, not too slow that it becomes challenging to keep the steady beat.
