Enclosed is a CD containing a PDF file with the name, vault registry number, service number (if applicable), and biography for each record. Some of the organizational records contained social security numbers and/or sensitive personal information which could be injurious to the veteran, the veteran's family or a third party named in the record. We have redacted or withheld that information in accordance with the personal privacy exemption of the Freedom ofInformation Act (FOIA), U.S.C.552 (b) (6). If you consider this an adverse response under the FOIA, you may appeal by writing, within 35 days of receipt of this letter, to the Deputy Archivist (ND), National Archives at College Park,8601 Adelphi Road, College Park, Maryland 20740-6001, and explain why you think our

While attempting to aid 2 men he believed wounded, was mortally wounded by a Japanese sniper. September 1945 the US Navy launched the USS Agerholm in his honor. While his team was on a reconnaissance patrol, they came under heavy enemy fire. Anderson was wounded in both legs, but assumed a prone position and delivered intense suppressive fire in an attempt to repulse the enemy. He continued his fire even as another marine was attending his leg wounds. Observing an enemy grenade land between he and the other marine, he rolled over, absorbing the full effects of detonation thereby saving several marines from serious injury or possible death.
