Projekttitel: Mathematics against malaria within the AIMS network (Prof. Dr. Martin Eichner), AIMS Cameroon (Prof. Gisèle Adélie Mophou Loudjom) Projektverantwortlicher: Prof. Dr. Kristan SchneiderKurzbeschreibung des Projekts:
Lecturers from University of Applied Sciences Mittweida and University of Tübingen engage in innovative teaching and research activities at AIMS Cameroon in the area of mathematical modeling of infectious diseases, particularly the tropical disease malaria. After tuberculosis, young talents at AIMS Cameroon with key competences necessary for cutting-edge research in data-driven modeling. The project is in cooperation with Prof. Gisèle Mophou Loudjom, the Alexander von Humboldt chair at AIMS Cameroon, and builds on a joint teaching and research agenda. Teaching activities from the German side at AIMS Cameroon span from population- dynamical, epidemiological and genetic modeling to statistics and control theory. Field tripsto gather data, which is later statistically analyzed and forms the basis of mathematical
models, are intended to reinforce the applied aspects of the transferred knowledge. Joint research project will complement the teaching activities. Particularly, joint PhD projects between Africa and Germany are planned. Two young AIMS-graduates will have the opportunity to spend several months during their PhD program in Germany. The first PhD project is concerned with the population dynamics of the malaria vector, the anopheles mosquito. New models are to be developed to gain a deeper understanding in the transmission dynamics, to sustain vector-control programs more efficiently and precisely. The focus of the second PhD project is the genetics of the malaria pathogen. In particular this project is concerned with genetic properties that lead to false-negative rapid diagnostic tests and hence to delayed treatment. The project is intended to sustain continued research and teaching collaborations with AIMS Cameroon in the area of modeling of tropical diseases.quotesdbs_dbs50.pdfusesText_50[PDF] daad portal
