Job Description: Oral History Coordinator The Oral History Coordinator will effectively coordinate the Oral History Project. The successful applicant will have previous experience in coordinating an oral history project, administrative experience and experience of fieldwork in the community. The Oral History Coordinator will be responsible for managing all aspects of the oral history project, including recruiting and training volunteers for the project. The Oral History Coordinator will report to the Executive Director and Board of Directors. The Oral History Coordinator is a new position, posted September 6, 2016. Duties: •Conduct oral history interviews. •Develop collaborative projects with other organizations towards conducting off-site oral histories around particular topics. •Recruit, train, and support a team of volunteers. •Manage the Oral History Archive, efficiently organizing and storing the collected oral histories. •Develop ways to share the collected histories, through pop-up exhibitions, online sharing, and other presentations. •Publicize the Oral History Project. •Work with the Executive Director to identify and pursue funding sources that will grow and sustain the Oral History Project. •Develop the Traveling Cure Porch as a venue for oral histories and other community engagement activities. •Lead occasional tours of local historic sites. •Provide staffing as needed of the Saranac Laboratory Museum. •Together with the Executive Director and the Museum Administrator, develop, lead, and publicize public programs, including tours, talks, and school outreach. •Contribute content to the HSL newsletter and to HSL's wiki website of local history. •Other duties at the request of the Executive Director and the Board. •Light janitorial duties. Qualifications: •Bachelor's degree required. •Experience and education in public history and oral history projects strongly preferred. •Keen interest in and enthusiasm for the history of the Saranac Lake area. •Strong leadership skills with the ability to take initiative and be a self-starter.

•Excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills; excellent public speaking abilities. •Outstanding relationship-building skills. •Proven organizational skills. Terms of Employment •Salary: $23,400 (The salary is computed as $15/hr. x 30 hrs/week x 52 weeks) •General work schedule is 30 hrs. / week. (9-4:30, Tuesday - Friday, with varied hours in the summer season, including some Saturdays.) •This a one year position, with potential to develop into a full time, permanent position, depending on funding. •This is an exempt, full time, salaried position. Exempt employees are paid an annual salary based on the nature of their work and the number of hours designated by their terms of employment. This amount will apply regardless of the number of hours worked. •Complete rights and responsibilities of employment are defined in the Personnel Policies of Historic Saranac Lake Position created September, 2016
