WELCOME TO CIRCUIT DE
BARCELONA-CATALUNYA
Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will be host to
the Formula 1® World Championship from 12 to14 May, and this edition of the FORMULA 1
GRAN PREMIO DE ESPAÑA PIRELLI 2017 will be
the 27th consecutive Grand Prix staged at the facilities of the Circuit, a milestone that only a few racetracks of the World Championship have been able to achieve. Moreover, the Catalan racetrack strengthens its condition as consolidated circuit, as it is the only venue of aGrand Prix that has been host to preseason
tests, thus showing the trust that both teams and drivers of the premier class have placed on the Circuit. After an absence of 16 years of Formula 1® in
Catalonia, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya
became a reality in 1991, taking over from the races staged in Montjuïc. The first Formula 1®Grand Prix took place on 29 September 1991,
only 19 days after the inauguration of the facilities, with Nigel Mansell as winner of the race, and Alain Prost and Riccardo Patrese completing that first rostrum. Along these years, the Circuit has had sixteen different winners, eleven of them World Champions: NigelMansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill, Michael
Schumacher, Jacques Villeneuve, Mika
Felipe Massa, Jenson Button, Mark Webber,
Sebastian Vettel, Pastor Maldonado, Lewis
Hamilton, Nico Rosberg and Max Verstappen.
As regards the sporting aspect, Circuit de
Barcelona-Catalunya will be hosting the fifthChina, Bahrain and Russia, which have provided
for exciting races full of surprises. The most evident can be found in the top of the standings, with the fight between the Ferrari and Mercedes drivers. The second place in the Russian GrandPrix allowed Sebastian Vettel strengthening his
leadership, with an advantage of 13 points overHamilton, who is second in the overall
party in Barcelona, after his first podium-finish this season, showing a rising trend since the start of the season. Valtteri Bottas, who achieved his first victory in F1, consolidated his third overall position, 23 points behind the leader. The Dutch Red Bull driver, Max Verstappen,
winner of the 2016 F1 Gran Premio de España, is fifth overall and will arrive in Barcelona looking forward to repeat the success of the previous season. Behind them, the rest of the drivers taking part in the World Championship will be fighting for the positions in the middle of the standings to reach the halfway mark of the season with possibilities to continue fighting to get a consolidated position in the final classification. Carlos Sainz, currently ninth overall, and Fernando Alonso, who has been forced to retire at the last four races due to problems with the engine of his McLaren, will be once again the local heroes. Marc Gené, development driver at Scuderia Ferrari, will round off this Spanish representation in theWorld Championship.
An unforgettable experience at Circuit de
Barcelona-Catalunya
All fans attending the FORMULA 1 GRAN
PREMIO DE ESPAÑA PIRELLI 2017 will have the
chance to enjoy an unforgettable experience, watching the F1® show live in benchmark facilities with high quality services. The comfort of the spectator areas, the catering offer, the excellent communications to get to Circuit deBarcelona-Catalunya, the hotel accommodation
capacity in the region and the city of Barcelona ʹ only 35 km away from the Circuit ʹ as a worldwide first class tourist destination, turn the FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO DE ESPAÑAPIRELLI 2017 into one of the most attractive
Grands Prix in the calendar of the F1® World
Championship.
Spectators can choose from a competitive ticket
offer, going from the general admittance area to14 different grandstands, two of which are
available per days (E and N), and are located in the most interesting sections of the track. The ticket for the event, the Circuit Member card and the Circuit Official card, as well as theHospitality pass offer several advantages to
enjoy the city of Barcelona and its surroundings after spending the day at the Grand Prix, e.g. theCamp Nou Experience, the International
Motorshow, renting a car with Goldcar or
visiting La Roca Village.Fans will have once again a lot to enjoy with
everything Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has prepared for them. The start of the Grand Prix will be marked by the traditional pit lane walkabout on Thursday from 16.00 to 18.30h, during which the drivers will be coming out of their garages to sign autographs for all spectators gathering on the pit lane. On Sunday, and right after the Grand Prix, spectators will be able to enjoy the podium ceremony up close and the Open Track, which will allow the access onto the track from the spectator areas for the third year in a row. This 27th edition of the Grand Prix includes many
novelties for the public. Music will obviously be the constant companion of the event, and this year, the access to the facilities will be made with happiness, excitement and especially with a lot of noise. And not only the noise of the cars, but also that of the batucadas that will be welcoming all attendants at the access gates of the Circuit and all over the spectator areas. ThisCatalan tradition will also be joined by another
universal emblem, namely the Castells, which have been recognised as World ImmaterialHeritage. Karts will also be playing an
outstanding role on Thursday, as a group of kids from the Open RACC Series will be making a kart exhibition on the main straight of the Circuit at18.00h. On Saturday, the leading role will be
taken over by the runners, to be precise at20.00h, since they will be able to run in a unique
surrounding on the racetrack, only a few hours before the official race. The gastronomic offer available at the FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO DEESPAÑA PIRELLI 2017 will be extended with the
Tapas GP, a space located next to Grandstand I,
that will provide for a taste of theMediterranean in a unique atmosphere with the
best culinary specialities. As regards artistic activities, there will be sketching sessions to make illustrations in strategic locations of Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The artist Santos de Veracruz will also be at the event, delighting the attendants with his live paintings. THE ORGANISATIONAL SIDE A SUCCESS
The finest organisational work on the sports side
must go hand in hand with a suitable welcome for the enthusiasts, from the time they spend on the road to when they take up positions at theCircuit, and good arrangements for the media
and clients of the various hospitality areas. Getting everyone into and out of last year'sFormula One Grand Prix was handled very
successfully. This year Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will be ready again to take on the
challenge of achieving maximum fluidity in the access points. The basic recommendations are these: > Use public transport In addition to studying various options with getting to and leaving the Circuit in such a way as to keep traffic problems down to a minimum, the Circuit will be continuing to offer options for getting to Montmeló by public transport: - The Sagalés coach company will be making it possible to get to the GP by coach fromBarcelona. The bus stop is located in the
Barcelona North Bus Station, platforms 25,
26 and 27, and arrives at the Eastern Area of
the Circuit. Tickets cost 12 euros and reservations can be made from the Sagalés company (www.sagales.com - tel. 902 13 00 14). -The Spanish railway company Renfe will be reinforcing its line-2 regional-train service from Barcelona by putting extra places to facilitate getting to the F1® Grand Prix. Renfe will be putting on special trains linkingBarcelona and Montmeló. Once at
Montmeló, there are three ways of getting to
Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya: using a
special shuttle service, by taxi or going on foot, which takes about 30 minutes (www.renfe.es). > Taking advantage of the areas set aside for private vehiclesRecommended exits from the AP7 motorway
and the C17 main road are shown for getting to the Media Car Park, as well as for getting to the other car parks at the surroundings of theCircuit.
> Follow instructions from the police and the organisation staff Take note of the information posters put up outside and inside the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. For security reasons, no cans,
bottles, fireworks or any other potentially dangerous objects may be brought into theCircuit.
