April 2021

Bargaining Update is a monthly report that provides information about the unionized workforce, primarily in Alberta.

The settlement data reported in this issue of Bargaining Update is based on the collective agreement settlement information

received by Mediation Services in April 2021.

In April 2021, Mediation Services received settlement information regarding 30 bargaining relationships encompassing

8,727 employees. There were

22 private sector and 8 public sector settlements, covering 3,616 and 5,111 employees

respectively.

New Grievance Mediation Program

New Grievance Mediation Program Mediation Services is pleased to introduce a new program to assist unions and employers to resolve grievances. The program includes a roster of grievance mediators who are dispute resolution practitioners from the labour relations community that are available to assist parties involved in grievances. We have also created an online Practitioner"s Portal where you can see the availability and contact information of grievance mediators. Agreements Ratified in 2021

To date,

54
agreements were ratified since January 2021. Thirty- three settlements affecting 3,418 employees were negotiated. Nineteen settlements affecting 3,414 employees were settled through the mediation process, and two settlements affecting 136 employees were settled by arbitration.
