Vorwort zur Neuauflage

Die Bundesakademie für musikalische Jugendbildung begann im Rahmen ihrer bundesweiten Beratungsaufgabe 1994 mit der Herausgabe von Repertoireverzeichnissen,

4, sie enthalten Literaturangaben zur Streic

herkammermusik bzw. zur Kammermusik für gemischte Ensembles. Aufgrund der großen Nachfrage wurde Anfang 1998 Band 2 und nun auch Band 1 in einer zweiten, aktualisierten und um jeweils rund 300 Titel erweiterten gischen Auftrag hat die Akademie diese

hen eingeteilt, nach Schwierigkeitsgraden geordnet und auf ihre spezifische Eignung hin untersucht. Dabei waren die Anforderungen

Die erste Auflage des Repertoireverzeichnisses

war Ergebnis des Projektes "Arbeitshilfen gebührt unser besonderer Dank. wurde seit dem ersten Redaktionsschluß Anfang 1994 von zahlreichen Verlagen in großzügiger Weise mit Belegexemplaren beliefert. Dadurch ist jetzt erneut ein unterstützt haben, sei an dieser Stelle nochmals gedankt. erfüllt sie die Funktion einer Spezialbibliothek für die musizierende Jugend und für das Laien-musizieren. Verschiedene Organisationen des deutschen Musiklebens, wie der Deutsche Musikrat mit dem Bundeswettbewerb "Jugend musiziert", der Verband deutscher Musik-schulen (VdM) und die Bundesvereinigung Deutscher Blas- und um Notenausgaben zu bewerten und Literaturempfehlungslisten herauszugeben. Darüber hinaus versorgt die Bibliothek Juroren von Musikwettbewerben mit Leseexemplaren. "Archiv Hermann Ambrosius" mit Bestands- und Werkverzeichnis erscheint im Juli 1998). Die bibliographische Erschließung des Bestandes erfolgt seit Juni 1992 mit dem bibliothekarischen Datenbankprogramm "allegro-C".

1998). In der Bibliothek kann auch eine Recherche in der "allegro-C"-Datenbank vorge-

schiedene Blechblasinstrumente, auch mit Schlagzeug oder Tasteninstrumenten bzw. Basso continuo. Nicht berücksichtigt wurden chorische Besetzungen (außer Posaunenchor) wie Brass bands oder Blasorchester, nicht berücksichtigt wurden außerdem die Solo-

Das Verzeichnis gliedert sich in

- einen alphabetischen Hauptteil , wo unter dem Komponistennamen bzw. dem Sachtitel die wurden nach den für Deutschland verbindlichen Regelwerken RAK (Regeln für die alphabetische Katalogisierung) bzw. RAK-Musik erstellt. Eine Besonderheit dabei ist der sogenannte Einheitssachtitel (EST), der verschiedene Ausgaben des gleichen Werkes zusammenführt. Die im EST und an anderen Stellen verwendeten Abkürzungen sind am

Ende des Vorworts aufgelistet.

- ein systematisches Register nach Besetzungen.

Ihm liegt die Besetzungssystematik der

Bundesakademie zugrunde, die zugleich als Standortsignatur dient (siehe auch Beispiel- wenn dieses für verschiedene Besetzungen spielbar ist. Die Systematik ist ebenso wie die Einstufungen und die Epochenbezeichnungen auf der Klappseite am Ende des Verzeich- nisses aufgelistet. - ein Register nach Einstufungen . Das Register nach Einstufungen ist ebenfalls nach Be- setzungen geordnet, danach jedoch nach aufsteigenden Schwierigkeitsgraden. Die Einstufung der Noten wurde von Kommissionen vorgenommen, die sich aus Hoch- schulprofessoren, Musikschullehrern und Praktikern zusammensetzten. Dabei wurden die Einteilungen in fünf Schwierigkeitsgrade und sechs Epochen von den Jugend-musiziert- Listen übernommen. Die Schwierigkeitsgrade stimmen mit den Unterrichtsstufen der

1 = sehr leicht bis leicht Unterstufe 1 (UI)

2 = leicht bis mittelschwierig Unterstufe 2 (UII)

3 = mittelschwierig Mittelstufe 1 (MI)

4 = schwierig Mittelstufe 2 (MII)

5 = sehr schwierig Oberstufe (O)

V Großbuchstaben folgendermaßen gekennzeichnet sind: A - Literatur, die in erster Linie für Wettbewerbe, Wertungsspiele und für den Konzert- vortrag geeignet erscheint, B - Literatur, die in erster Linie für den Unterricht geeignet erscheint,

Musik unterhaltenden Charakters,

P - Literatur für Posaunenchor (Spielpartituren in C). Die Einstufungen sind demnach zweiteilig und setzen sich aus einem Großbuchstaben und einer arabischen Ziffer zusammen (A4, B2 etc.), Zwischenstufen bei den verschiedener Komponisten oder mehreren Einstufungen haben (B2; B3, P1/2; P2 etc.). Eine Einstufung für Posaunenchor kann zu- unterschiedlichen Gründen keine Einstufung zugewiesen werden.

Preface

Due to her function as a nationwide advisory board, the Bundesakademie für musikalische Jugendbildung started in 1994 the edition of repertoire catalogues which allow some orientation on the growing German and international music market. Music for two and more wind-instruments was collected in two volumes and put into systematical and bibliographical order firstly. The third and fourth volume were published 1997 and 1998, they contain music for two and more different string instruments and music for mixed chamber ensembles respectivly. Because of the strong inquiry we presented early in 1998 a second updated edition of volume 2 and now the same of volume 1, each with about 300 added works. Due to her pedagogic function, the academy classified these music after their musicological epoches, ordered them after their levels of difficulty and inspected them concerning their specific suitability. This had to be done regarding the different requirements of the "Jugend musiziert" competition as well as the review and valuation performances of wind-music federations. The first publication of this repertoire catalogue was result of a project called "Supporting Materials for Juveniles' Music in Federations, Conservatories and Youth Groups". The foundation "Deutsche Jugendmarke" had been supporting the project financially from 1992 to 1994, for which we are especially obliged to them. Without the willing help of publishing houses in Germany and abroad, the listing of the

2000 titles could never have taken place to this extend. Numerous publis

hing houses have supplied the library with specimen copies most generously also after the first copy deadline early in 1994. That is why a renewed representative survey of the current music supply is now provided although completeness can never be reached. Many thanks again to all the publishing houses which supported our work. Any listed piece of music can be looked into at the library of the Bundesakademie. As an institute library, it grants on one hand the literature supply of the courses, seminaries and conferences taking place at the academy, on the other hand it fulfills the function of a specialist library for juveniles making music and for amateur musicians. Various organizations of the German music life, like the "Deutsche Musikrat" with the "Jugend Musiziert" competition, the "Verband deutscher Musikschulen" (VdM) and the national federation of German wind- and folk music fe derations do send committees to the library of the Bundesakademie to value editions of music and to hand out lists of recommendation. Beyond that, the library supplies panelists of music competitions with working copies. At the moment, the stock contains over 60.000 pieces of music, besides books, magazines and sound carriers. Several special collections have to be added: Music magazines since documentation "Archiv Hermann Ambrosius" will be published in July 1998). Since June

1992, the bibliographical opening is done by means of the library data base programme

"allegro-C".

Indications for using the Repertoire Catalogue

The written music listed in this catalogue represents the stock of the Bundesakademie in the corresponding orchestral compositions by copy deadline (May 1998). In the library, a research in the "allegro-C" data base with additional search paths (e.g. via catchwords) is possible. The scope of compositions taken into account contains all the ensemble music for different brass wind-instruments, also with percussion or key instruments or basso continuo. Sectional compositions (except trombone sections) like brass bands or wind orchestras, the solo music and works for several instruments of the same type (3 trumpets, 4 horns etc.) were not taken into consideration.

The catalogue is subdivided in

- a main part in alphabetical order , where the complete bibliogr aphical notes can be found after the name of the composer or the title. The main part was set up as per the "RAK" (Rules for Catalogueing in Alphabetical Order), a regulation which is compulsory for Germany, or the "RAK for Music". One characteristic feature is the so-called "Einheitssachtitel" (Uniform title), which unites different editions of the same work of one composer in the same place, disregarding the corresponding title page. The abbreviations used in the Uniform title and in other places are listed up at the end of the preface. - a systematic index after compositions . This part bases on the composition classification of the Bundesakademie which serves as a location signature as well. (See also model entry). In the systematic index, the same wo rk may be listed several times if it can be performed in various compositi ons. The systematic manner as well as the classification and the names for the different epoches can be found on the flap page at the end of this catalogue. - a classification index . The classification index is put into order after compositions, as well, but later in ascending order after levels of difficulty.

Explanations to the Classification

The classification of written music was done by commissions which consisted of college professors, teachers from music schools and practicians. They adopted the "Jugend musiziert"-lists' arrangement: in five levels of difficulty and six historical epoches. The levels of difficulty correspond to the levels of teaching of the "Verband deutscher

Musikschulen" (VdM) in the following manner:

1 = very easy to easy Junior Grades 1

2 = easy to medium Junior Grades 2

3 = medium Intermediate Stage 1

4 = difficult Intermediate Stage 2

5 = very difficult Upper Grade

VIII In addition, the music was divided in four fields which are marked by capital letters as follows: A - Written music, which seems to be suitable for competitions, valuation performances and concerts in the first place B - Written music, which seems to be suitable for teaching in the first place C - Music for special occasions (music for ecclesiastical and secular feasts and occasions); entertaining music P - Music for trombone chorus (playing scores in C) As a consequence of this, the classifications are divided in two parts. They consist of a capital letter and an Arabic numeral (A4, B2 etc.), intermediate steps in the levels of difficulty are possible (C2/3, A4/5 etc.). Compilations with works of various composers or several works of the same composer may have several classifications (B2; B3, P1/2; P2 etc.). A rating for trombone chorus may occur in addition to another rating, the level of difficulty remains the same as a matter of principle (A3; P3 etc.). A number of works could not be rated for various reasons.
