REPORT FROM THE PROVISEUR

I am writing these words from Noumea in New Caledonia. This year I have indeed decided to accompany

37 Year 6 students as part of our partnership with Collège Baudoux. This is an amazing opportunity

to interact with students, take more time to listen to them and thus get to know them better. Ms Kerrie

Blain will be joining me later during this trip and we will meet with New Caledonian officials and the

representative of the Australian Federal Government in order to strengthen our continued ties and

address administrative matters.

Representative to Australia, to set up a cultural space within our school to better promote this part of

France. This cultural space, funded by the government of Nouméa, will be inaugurated in our Secondary

library in March during the Francophonie Week (Semaine de la Francophonie).

Our students stay in their billet families, gradually immersing themselves in French overseas lifestyle

and school life. So far everything is going remarkably well. Many thanks to Mrs Catherine Buatois, French

Primary Director, Mr Vincent Séverac, Year 6 teacher, and Mary De Poorter,Secondary Executive Teacher

Primary Deputy Principal, for planning and organizing this trip. We also greatly appreciate our excellent

cooperation with Collège Baudoux and wish to thank Mrs Françoise Odouard, teacher in charge of the

exchange, Mr Michel Fauveau, Principal, and the host families for hosting our students. Next year we are looking forward to hosting the students and teachers from New Caledonia. On 11 November, our school community commemorated with great emotion the armistice that ended the First World War. This was held at the front of the school.

Our Primary choir performed "In Flanders fields" at the French Embassy in front of an audience of officials

during an official ceremony presided over by Mr. Christophe Penot, Ambassador of France and His

Excellency Sir David Hurley, Governor General of Australia. We wish to acknowledge the importance of these commemorations and acknowledge our gratitude to

the millions of human lives sacrificed during conflicts so that our young people never forget them and

build a better future. Last Saturday, I enjoyed the friendliness and commitment of the P&C volunteers. Thanks to them our

Grande Fête was an amazing success. This school event reflects the support of our families and our

community for our educational project.

On behalf of Telopea Park School / Lycée franco-australien de Canberra I would like to thank and

congratulate all the members of the P&C, its president Trish LAVERY, the parents' committee, including

French parents, who planned and organised this successful event. A warm thank you to the staff, the parents who gave their time to plan, organise and run a stall.

A warm thank you to the teachers who prepared the songs, dances, concerts with their students. This is

once again a wonderful demonstration of all the valuable work done in this school. A warm thank you to the many members of our school community for rewarding the efforts of the P&C and making this afternoon a very successful and friendly event throughout the capital. Term 4 is now in full swing and the end of the Australian school year is approaching with its many deadlines, such as planning for the next school year. Two weeks ago, registrations for the 2020 French exams began: - French Baccalauréat for our Year 12 students; - First examinations of the new French Baccalauréate for our Year 10 students; - Diplôme National du Brevet for our Year 8 students. Our students continue to prepare well for these examinations; a mock Bac exam will be organised for

our Year 11 students next week and for our Year 10 students in week 9 of this term. Our Year 11 students

will take their first examinations for the new Baccalauréate in February 2020. Class councils for Year 6 to 12 EFS students have been held in recent weeks and will be held in the

coming weeks. I notice the success of the vast majority of our students, thanks to their constant and

sustained efforts and motivation and the support of their families.

Reports were given to students and were used as a reference during the parent-teacher interviews last

term. Learning Journeys and could acknowledge the significant work done by their children.

A ceremony will be held at the Alliance française on 22 November to reward the best Primary students

who took part in the poetry recitation competition organised by the French Embassy and the Association

of Teachers of French as a Second Language in Canberra. Thank you to Mrs Laurence BARTHELEMY, Primary School Teacher, who supervises the school's participation for this competition. I welcome the many successful projects involving our students. As part of the French curriculum, our Year 12 EFS students went on a geology field trip on 23 and 24

October. This trip was organised and supervised by Mr. François BOUTAUD, teacher of Life and Earth

Sciences, and a teacher from Narrabundah College. Many thanks to the teachers who gave their time to allow our students to learn in a different context. When they came back, these same students represented France remarkably well on United Nations

Day at Narrabundah College.

On 25 October, Telopea Park School / Lycée franco-australien de Canberra was selected from among

616 primary schools and other pre-schools across Australia to receive a Woolworths Junior Landcare

grant that will help us develop our Telopea Park community garden / Healthy community project.

Beyond simply cultivating plants and learning the plant life cycle in a fun way, gardening at school offers

children the opportunity to multiply experiences: tilling, sowing, harvesting... This activity helps to

empower students, raise their environmental consciousness (utility of plants, water/waste management,

risks related to pesticides...), educate them about healthy eating habits and introduce them to science,

especially biodiversity. This project is a most interesting approach to teaching other topics in a different

way: using the vocabulary of gardening for language purposes; learning the concepts of time and seasons

by observing the development of plants over days and months; introducing students to space

management with garden design... It even allows teachers to teach math by asking children to count seeds, weigh production or measure the height of a plant, for example. Congratulations and thanks to Mrs. Aurore SEVERAC, Year 3 schoolteacher, for initiating and developing this amazing project.

Sports achievements

We are very proud of our Year 4 tennis team, remarkably coached by Mrs. Cathy MAROT. The team made the headlines on 27 October by winning the ACT Tennis Championships for the second year in a row. They are thus moving onto the National Championships that will be held in Sydney on 18 November.

championships.

I wish to congratulate Charlie CAMUS, our YEAR 8 EFS student, for regularly winning the tennis national

championships. On 13 October, Charlie won the Australian 14U doubles tournament in Perth. Articles on

Charlie will soon be published in the French youth press. Our tennis champion manages both his sporting

and academic careers extremely well and surely has a very promising career to come. The second edition of the bilingual Astrolabe project is now over. On 31 October 2019, two juries composed of Ms Aurélie LENEVEZ and Mr Thomas GREIG, science teachers, scientists from the ANU and representatives of the French Embassy's Defence Commission selected the best projects. The Astrolabe project is initiated by the Defence Commission of the French Embassy in Canberra and Telopea Park

School/Lycée franco-australien de Canberra. The navy ship Astrolabe is a polar patrol/ice breaker vessel

based in Hobart, Tasmania, each summer for the next 30 years to supply the Dumont d'Urville base in

support of the French Polar Scientific Institute... This project is a great opportunity for students to

immerse in science with a project related to Antarctica. Year 10 EFS students as well as Year 10 Quantum

Science students have teamed up on projects that must be of interest to the community. The students

who presented the best projects were offered a 2-day stay in Hobart, with a visit to the icebreaker in

March 2020. The two winning projects deal with the effects of eutrophication on marine life and on the

effects of water density on thermohaline circulation. Congratulations to all the participating students and

the science teachers who supervised them, including Ms. Ona SIAKIMOTU and Ms. Floriane MICHEL. As for our French teachers, they continue to undertake professional training. On 31 and 1 November, the Australian Association of French-English Bilingual Schools - AAFEBS held

a series of professional learnings at Telopea Park School / Lycée franco-australien de Canberra, with

the Red Hill French pre-school. These days were an excellent opportunity for Telopea Park School teachers to share their teaching practices and expertise in bilingualism with colleagues from other schools. Two AEFE expert teachers, M. Lionel POUJET et M. Mohamed EL AHMADI, led and supervised workshops on an intersectional approach to mathematics teaching. Three TPS teachers attended this

professional learning and will soon share their new skills with their peers. They worked with about forty

teachers teaching in one of the 15 AAFEBS member schools from the ACT, NSW, QLD, VIC and SA, as well as from New Zealand.

These days are an excellent opportunity for Telopea Park School teachers to share their teaching

practices and expertise in bilingualism with colleagues from other schools. The next AAFEBS professional

learning will be held in Melbourne in October 2020. From the end of this month until March 2020, three Secondary Pedagogical Councillors will visit our school, thanks to the financial support of the Agency for French Education Abroad - AEFE. Their

professional learning will focus on French, Literature, Life and Earth Sciences, Physics, Chemistry and

Mathematics curricula, particularly in the context of the implementation of the new curricula following

the French high school reform. Term 4 is the traditional time to prepare for the next school year: - The end of year celebrations have already begun with the Y4-6 concert on Thursday 31 October. This concert is always much appreciated by the many parents who attend and another opportunity to be

proud of our students, the work accomplished in our school and their musical performances. Many thanks

to all staff and especially to Ms Susan CRIBB and Ms Maria MAGDIC for all the preparing our students and organizing the event. Our K-3 concert will be held on Thursday 22 November. - We are running special events to ensure that all pre-schoolers (Moyenne Section de Maternelle) in particular those students from the Red Hill French Pre-school- have a smooth and successful transitioning into Kindergarten (Grande Section de Maternelle) - Our future Year 7 students and their parents attended an Information Night on 5 November; a

second information night will be held during Term 2 for those parents whose Year 7 student is enrolled

in the Secondary English French stream. - Our Year 10 students completed their enrolment at Narrabundah College.

Last but not least, the third edition of Semaine des Lycées français du Monde organised by the AEFE,

will be held for the third time from 18 to 22 November 2019.

All French schools around the world are invited to participate by offering events and educational activities

that can have an impact both locally and across the network. With a presence in 137 countries, more than 500 schools and 400,000 students enrolled from Kindergarten to Year 12, France has the largest school network beyond its borders. On all continents, French families and many other nationalities,

including Australians, choose French education for its high standards. Many initiatives will highlight our

dynamic schools, our committed staff and our successful students and alumni.

We have decided to highlight our specific programs that ensure the well-being and success of our Primary

and Secondary students at Telopea Park School/ Lycée franco-australien de Canberra and Narrabundah

College. Boris GRUNDLER, in charge of external communication, has made a video with students

interviews and an ephemeral journal that will be published on the AEFE and school websites (FR).

This Semaine des Lycées français du Monde is an excellent opportunity to strengthen our ties and

promote our achievements. I wish our school community, students, parents and staff a happy end of year.

Il y a deux semaines ont commencé les inscriptions aux examens français de 2020: celles des élèves de Terminale pour le baccalauréat;

suivront les inscriptions de nos élèves de Y10/1ère aux premières épreuves du nouveau bac,

puis celles de nos élèves de Y8/3ème au Diplôme National du Brevet

Nos élèves continuent à bien se préparer à ces examens ; un bac blanc sera organisé pour nos Y11, la semaine

prochaine et pour nos Y10, ce sera en semaine 9 de ce trimestre. Nos élèves de Première passeront leurs premiers

examens du nouveau baccalauréat, en février 2020.

Les conseils de classe pour les élèves du courant bilingue, de la 6ème à la Terminale, ont eu lieu, ces dernières

semaines, et vont avoir lieu dans les prochaines semaines. Je peux ainsi constater la réussite de la très grande

majorité de nos élèves, et ce, grâce à un travail constant, consistant, à la motivation et au soutien de leurs familles.

Les élèves ont reçu leur bulletin qui a pu notamment servir de base aux échanges, lors des rencontres parents-

professeurs du trimestre dernier.

En Primaire, les parents ont également eu la possibilité de rencontrer les professeurs de leur/s enfant/s et durant la

matinée des " learning journeys », ils o

, une cérémonie se tiendra, le 22 novembre prochain, pour récompenser les meilleurs élèves

Les performances sportives de nos élèves ne sont pas en reste. Nous sommes très fiers de notre équipe de tennis

pe a fait la une de la presse, le 27 octobre dernier, en remportant pour la seconde année consécutive les champi

participer au championnat national qui se tiendra à Sydney, le 18 novembre prochain. Nous penserons très fort à

nos élèves et à Cathy, ce jour-là.

Auparavant, le 20 septembre, déjà deux de nos équipes de tennis du Primaire étaient arrivés première et seconde

aux championnats régionaux de tennis. Je terminerai ce paragraphe sportif en saluant ème du courant français, Charlie CAMUS pour ement au tennis. Le 13 octobre dernier, nous apprenions que Charlie venait

de décrocher le tournoi australien 14U en double sur gazon, à Perth. Des articles paraîtront prochainement dans la

presse française pour jeunes sur notre champion qui arrive à superbement gérer ses parcours sportifs et scolaires

et dont nous suivons de près la carrière très prometteuse.

La seconde édition du projet biling est désormais terminée. Le 31 octobre 2019, deux jurys

composés de professeurs de sciences, Mme A les meilleurs projets. Je rappelle que

le projet L'Astrolabe est une initiative de la mission militaire de l'ambassade de France à Canberra et de Telopea

Park School/ Lycée franco-australien. Le navire de la marine L'Astrolabe est un vaisseau de patrouille polaire/brise-

glace qui est basé à Hobart (Tasmanie) chaque été durant les 30 prochaines années, afin de ravitailler la base

Dumont d'Urville, en soutien de l'institut polaire scientifique français. Associer le lycée et l'Astrolabe constitue une

formidable occasion pour les élèves d'investir les sciences au sein d'un projet lié à l'Antarctique. Les élèves de

seconde du courant français, ainsi que les élèves de Year 10 Quantum Science du courant australien ont fait équipe

sur des projets qui doivent avoir un intérêt pour la communauté. Les groupes ont donc présenté leurs projets et les

groupes qui ont présenté les meilleurs projets se sont vu offrir un séjour de 2 jours à Hobart, avec une visite du

brise-glace. Ainsi ce sont le groupe qui a la circulation thermohaline, qui ont été récompensés par un séjour

de deux jours à Hobart, avec une visite du brise-glace, en mars 2020. Un grand bravo à tous les élèves participants

du réseau. Avec une présence dans 137 pays, plus de 500 établissements et 400 000 élèves scolarisés de la

maternelle à la terminale, la France est le pays qui dispose du plus important réseau scolaire au-delà de ses

frontières. Sur tous les continents, des familles françaises et de nombreuses autres nationalités dont australiennes

es atouts. Le dynamisme des établissements,

l'engagement des équipes éducatives, la réussite des élèves et des anciens élèves seront mis en lumière par une

myriade d'initiatives. Le thème " ussir » servira de fil rouge à la

3e édition de la Semaine des lycées français du monde et illustre la finalité profonde du système éducatif français :

faire réussir les élèves grâce à une scolarité solide, sereine et épanouissante, portée par des valeurs humanistes,

qui leur permettra de devenir les acteurs du monde de demain.

We are ready to start collecting gifts for The Smith Family Christmas Toy and Book Appeal 2019. This year The

Smith Family says that they have a shortage of gifts for children aged 8-12. Gifts such as board games, STEM and

activity-based toys are always well received.

Gifts can be left at the senior library under the Christmas tree. Donations will be accepted until the morning of

December 9th. The Smith Family has asked that gifts are not wrapped.

Christmas can be a difficult time for some families, please consider donating and spreading a bit of kindness to

Canberra families in need this Christmas.

In Term 2 several students undertook the Australian History and the National Geography Competitions. Once again

Since 2014, the Semester One Year 9 Geography classes have organised the Anglicare Pantry Appeal as part of their

2200 items. Thank you to Mr Hobbs and Mr Fahey for organising the collection, the Year 9 Geography teachers and

students and to all the students, parents and staff who donated goods to support our local community. In an email

Again students from Telopea have entered the competition for The Simpson Prize. This is a national competition for

Year 9 and 10 students. The competition encourages participants to explore the significance of the Anzac experience

and what it has meant for Australia. The winner for the ACT this year was Jett Aplin in Year 10.

The National History Challenge is a research-based competition for students. It gives students a chance to be an

ng their

own roots. It emphasises and rewards quality research, the use of community resources and effective presentation.

The Individuals and Societies Faulty ran a National History Challenge Enrichment group in Term 2 to provide students

with the opportunity to develop their ideas. Three Year 7 students received Bronze Certificates for their submissions:

Ava Starling, Abigail Macaso and Natalie Salazar.

Finally, I would like to congratulate the students who presented and participated on Monday at our Remembrance

Ceremony commemorating the end of the First World War. Thank you to Noam, Isabelle and Ebba from Secondary,

Carla and Vacso in Year 6 and Liam, James, Sophie and Lauren in Kindergarten. Thank you also to Samuel and Jad

for their training of the catafalque party and honour guard, Elisha for drumming and Elanor for her excellent playing

of the Last Post and Rouse. Finally, thank you to the school band and Mr Yuen, and all students for their participation

in this ceremony.

This term the primary school community have been continuing to make the most of their last term of the year,

packing in exciting learning and plenty of great connections to our community.

Le Grande Fete

Thank you to all the families that came and supported our school community at Le Grande Fete. The primary students

loved performing for everyone and are still talking about how much fun they had! A big thank you to Susan Crib for

all her work with the singing and dancing!

Year 3 Excursion to the Jerrabomberra Wetlands

As part of their science inquiry, Year 3 went to the Jerrabomberra Wetlands on an excursion in week 3.

Students did lots of fun activities exploring the flora and fauna. Some of the activities they did included

bird watching, checking water quality, searching for and catching aquatic life forms using nets. They

found tadpoles, water spiders and larvae, they then looked at under a microscope and classified them

Kindergarten visit from the fire brigade

Kindergarten had a visit from some lovely firefighters in week 4 who talked to them about the dangers and trauma that can be caused by fire, especially fires in and around the home. The presentation was very informative and interactive with students captivated and engaged. It was good timing with the bush fires happening throughout Australia and little minds no doubt curious about this natural disaster.

Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day was commemorated this year with a beautiful whole Congratulations to Liam K1, James K2, Lison K3, Laurent K4 who helped lay the wreathes onto the memorial. Congratulations also to our choir who sang beautifully and represented our school impeccibly at the French

Embassy on the day.

Canberra Program Whilst some of our year 6 students are soaking up the sun in Noumea, the rest of the year

6 children have been enjoying fun filled excursions and exciting activities back here in Canberra. You may have

activities they have been doing include coding, dance, drama, cooking, art and science experiments along with

excursions to the National Zoo and Aquarium, the Botanic Gardens, the Wetlands, the Glassworks and a walking

tour of the NGA. At the NGA the children learnt about Australian Indigenous artworks from the Daintree

Rainforest, Fred McCubbin and other Australian Impressionist artists from that era, some Australian Art Deco by

Napier Waller as well as pieces by Grace Crowley and John Brack.

Lots of great things to come in the next few weeks! Here is a sneak peek of a rehearsal for the K-3 concert next

NOUVELLES DU PRIMAIRE

Ce trimestre, nos élèves du primaire a continué à profiter de leur dernier trimestre de l'année grâce à des activités

passionnantes et de nombreux rapprochements avec notre communauté.

Le Grande Fête

Merci à toutes les familles venues soutenir notre communauté scolaire lors de notre Grande Fête. Les élèves du

primaire ont adoré se produire devant tout le public venu nombreux et parlent encore du plaisir qu'ils ont eu ! Un

grand merci à Susan Crib pour son implication auprès de nos élèves en les préparant aux chants et à la danse !

Sortie des CE2 à Jerrabomberra Wetlands

Dans le cadre de leur cours de sciences basé sur le questionnement, les élèves de CE2 se sont rendus en sortie à

Jerrabomberra Wetlands en Semaine 3. Les élèves ont pu participer à de nombreuses activités amusantes en

explorant la flore et la faune. Ils ont notamment observé les oiseaux, vérifié la qualité de l'eau, recherché et attrapé

des formes de vie aquatique à l'aide de filets. Ils ont trouvé des têtards, des araignées d'eau et des larves, qu'ils

ont ensuite examinés au microscope et classés en différentes catégories. Après la sortie, ils sont ensuite passés à

des activités de production en classe et créé des affiches pour persuader les gens de ne pas jeter de détritus et de

réduire la quantité de plastique, après avoir trouvé de petits morceaux de plastique dans un nid d'oiseau.

Visite des pompiers en classe de Grande Section de Maternelle En semaine 4, des pompiers adorables sont intervenus auprès de nos élèves de Grande Section de Maternelle pour leur parler des dangers que peuvent causer les incendies, en particulier les incendies à la maison, et des traumatismes qu'ils peuvent causer. La présentation a été très instructive et interactive, et les élèves ont été ca avec les feux de brousse qui ont eu lieu dans toute l'Australie et les nombreuses interrogations que nos petits élèves peuvent avoir à propos de ces catastrophes naturelles.

Cérémonies du 11 novembre

Cette année une belle cérémonie a eu lieu devant l'école, près de notre Monument aux Morts. Félicitations à Liam, élève de G.S 1, James, élève de G.S 2, Lison, élève de G.S 3 et Laurent, élève de G.S 4 qui ont aidé à déposer les gerbes de fleurs sur le monument.
