Special Edition SKYLINE HIGHDear Parents, I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to our departing Director, Jodi Mulder. During the past seven years I have had the privilege to work alongsid

e a true professional. The first question Ms.Mulder always asked when facing a school problem was, ?what is best for the child?? She possessed the knowledge and experience required to make sound educational decisions. We have all learned a great deal from her over the years. Without her guidance, American Academy would not have grown and prospered. We wish the very best in the many adventures life has ahead. You know wherever she is it will be a ?Happy Day?!MS. JODI'S LETTER MR JEX'S LETTERBenjamin Crandall:I came to Morocco for many small reasons...but Jodi was the main reason.KAREN ARCHIBALD:"I will remember Jodi for her phrases, such as "happy day". She faces any news with a smile and "happy day" response, no matter how calm or crazy the news is. Jodi, you will be missed!"IMANE AL MOUTAA:It is hard to talk about a person that I worked with for the last 10 years. Jodi, you are the best work colleague anyone could ever wish for, always there for supporting all the teachers. This place is going to feel empty without the cheerful attitude that you bring in every single day, hearing you saying,?HAPPY DAY!?Photo by Jad KhayyatiBrought to you by the yearbook staffPhoto by school photographerIt seems like yesterday that I talked with Mr. Kouhaila and Mr. Gharbi and decided to come to American Academy with a two year contract in my hand. Ten years later I am still here:)! What I didn?t realize when I accepted the contract was that I would fall in love with the country, our AAC families and most of all the beautiful children with their big smiles and sweet hearts. I came to Morocco and found my Moroccan family that I didn?t know I had:)! It is hard for me to believe that this is my 45th year in education. I am so lucky because I never worked a day in my life. I loved school as a child and I love school as an adult. I followed my passion in life and I have to say I feel the same today as I did on my very first day as a teacher standing in front of a class of first graders. Children bring out the best in us, and I thank them each day for teaching me more than I have ever been able to teach them. Although I won?t be at the gate each morning greeting students I will continue to be part of the AAC family as a Board member. I look forward to doing all I can to support our school in becoming the leading school in Morocco and Africa. I feel good about leaving the day to day management to the current school leadership, along with the new Director, Ms. Patricia Martinez. Your children will continue to be the center of all decisions made, and I am confident that the school will continue to grow and improve each day. I wish each of you the very best, and I thank each of you for giving me a great 10 years with your children. Ms. Jodi

Volleyball - Mrs Amanda, our volleyball coach, said: "I had the joy of coaching the Junior Varsity and Varsity Girls Volleyball team at AAC. I got to take the girls to Rabat American School for the MASAC Tournament back in November. It was fun to watch them play and see friends from other schools. From the first practice to the tournament the girls came together and played like a team, as well as developed skills in communication and teamwork. I am looking forward to doing club volleyball starting January 11th with secondary students. We will be working on fine tuning skills and playing friendly games with each other.."Secondary students interested in Volleyball Club should report to the gym after school starting January 11th.Model United Nations - Six students were honored to attend the Model UN Conference hosted by the American School of Tangier December 9 - 11. The international system requires students to represent United Nations delegates and ambassadors as they debate and work to solve real-world problems. AAC's students represented Germany and Canada. All but one of the students was participating for the first time. It can be an intimidating event, with occasional shouting and objections based on the rules of parliamentary procedure, but our students did a great job of learning the ropes. In January, another group will be going to Moroc Model United Nations hosted by Rabat American School.PUMA PRIDE - AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIESHOLIDAY FAIR - FAMILY FUN AT AAC! AAC CALENDAR ANNOUNCEMENTS Photos by Oussama BajiPuma Express 12/10/2016Photo by Oussama BajiAmerican Academy Casablanca organized another great event on December 4 at our beautiful campus in Bouskoura Green Town. "The Holiday Fair" brought talented artists to show off their work, handmade products with locally-sourced materials and a socially-conscious business model. The event was highlighted by many activities for kids and the family to enjoy that day. Our art club used that event to introduce their talent through paintings, choreographies and making cupcakes. Volunteers helped make this event successful. The kids enjoyed their time. Families had the time to be with their children. As an educational school we are glad to help building a strong community and good relationships. Jan. 9 - There will be a Parent Workshop at 3:30 p.m. in the Theater. The topics are graduation requirements at AAC and general issues related to university admission.Jan. 11 - The Volleyball Club will start after school for secondary students.Jan. 20 - End of Semester One.

NEWSLETTERSKYLINE HIGHPuma Express 12/10/2016MS BARBARA :What to say about Ms. Jodi? Well I could fill a book with all her slightly strange sayings. She calls them her Jodi-isms! I think 'Dip me in bananas' might be one of the craziest! We have all heard her 'Happy Day!' I want to tell you about three qualities that Ms. Jodi has which, to me, made her a great principal. As teachers we all have the things we have to teach. Ms. Jodi allowed all of us to teach in our own unique way as long as we taught what we had to teach. You might not be able to appreciate how great that was, to me it was wonderful. Always to Ms. Jodi the students come first, followed by every member of staff. If ever a student or a member of staff has a problem she is one of the first to offer help. That is a rare quality! On a more personal level Ms. Jodi always told me that students learn a lot from their teacher when the teacher doesn't even know they are watching. I want to say the same back to her. Without her knowing we were all watching she built a safe and happy school for us all.Newsletter Editor: Salma Mabrouk --- Yearbook Editor: Kenza Mzabi --- Managing Editor: Ghita Bennis --- Business Manager: Ali Jaghar --- Design Editor: Oussama Baji --- Photo Editor: Zineb Khattat --- Special Projects/Writer: Fatima Zahra Hassani --- Photographers: Rania Bennis, Sylar Yan, Sara Cultrera, Sarah Aouani --- Graphic Designers: Jad Khayyati, Moad Sati, Adam Bhavnani --- Faculty Advisor: Kendrick Blackwood Yearbook StaffWe hope all the best for our fabulous Head of School Jodi Mulder. We had the honor to have her in our amazing school, and she has done a very good job. As she says "Happy Day!" --She will be missed-- Ms. Jodi?s journey in AAC has been very long, but it?s time for her to go after 10 years of hard work. The newsletter staff interviewed Ms. Jodi, and we learned a lot about her experience in AAC and Morocco. When we asked her what she?ll miss the most, she answered without hesitation. She said she will miss the kids the most. She has seen many of them go from eager little ones to earnest young adults. She said one milestone for her and the school was AAC?s first graduation. Ms. Jodi?s journey in Morocco taught her many important life lessons. Morocco taught her how important family is, and how people should never hold a grudge any longer than one minute! ?Morocco changed my perspective on life!? she said with a smile. Ms. Jodi began her career in AAC with a two-year contract with Mr. Said Kouhaila and Mr. Ali Gharbi. A decade later, she's still here! She told us she loves her daily routine. Every single morning she goes to the front gate to greet all the students. She does exactly the same thing at dismissal. She just loves seeing the kids smile! We asked Ms. Jodi if she could turn back time, what's one thing she would change. Her answer was touching. She said that she would come to Morocco earlier to stay longer! Ms. Jodi will no longer be our Head of School, but she will still be a part of the AAC family. She will be a part of the Board and hopes to visit a lot. We look forward to see her again!Photo by Sylar YanPhotos by Oussama BajiBy Jad Khayyati
