An eligible list will be established for use by the Department of Developmental Services. The names of successful competitors will be merged onto the eligible list in order of final scores regardless of date. Eligibility expires twelve (12) months after it is established, unless the needs of the service and conditions of the list(s) warrant a change in this period. Competitors must then retake the examination to re-establish eligibility.REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMITTANCE TO THE EXAMINATION
All applicants must meet the experience and/or education requirements for this examination at the time the application is submitted. Your signature on the application indicates that you read, understood and possess the minimum qualifications required. State Applications must include: and dates (month/day/year), time base, hours workedper week, civil service or private sector titles, and the duties performed. Applications without this
information may be rejected from this examination. If using education to qualify, applicant must include copies of unofficial transcripts. College course information must include title, number of semester or quarter units, name of institution, completion dates, and degree (if applicable).MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Two years of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Behavior Specialist I or two years of experience designing, implementing, and monitoring behavioral services in a human service setting. and Education: Possession of a master of arts or science degree in a human services field (which may include, but is not limited to, education, psychology, counseling, behavior analysis, social work, or rehabilitation) from an institution of higher education, fully accredited by a regional accrediting body, which includes a minimum of24 semester units in applied behavior analysis (including basic principles and applications in
applied settings, ethics, data collection, and analysis). Applicants must submit a copy of their unofficial college transcripts along with the applicationwhen using education to meet the minimum qualifications for this examination. All foreign
transcripts MUST be accompanied by a third-party academic credential evaluation. OUT-OF-CLASS EXPERIENCE: Applicant must submit copies of Out-Of-Class documentation approved by HR Office. Experience must be dated within one year of assignment completion to use as out-of-class experience to meet the minimum qualifications for examination purposes. Employees may obtain this documentation from his/her management. Out-of-class experience without required documentation will not be considered for examination purposes.POSITION DESCRIPTION
In a State developmental center or any other State-operated facility of the Department of Developmental Services, under general supervision and under the clinical lead and direction of a Psychologist with competence in applied behavior analysis, the incumbent may act as a lead person over a small group of lower-level positions, and performs the more difficult and complex duties as follows: as a member of the interdisciplinary team, assists in conducting behavioral assessments (೦functional analyses೦) and participates in designing behavioral programs;BEHAVIOR SPECIALIST II (6/2023) Page 3 of 11
analyzes, summarizes, and displays data; trains staff in behavioral principles and techniques; and provides ongoing monitoring of program implementation.SPECIAL PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Objective and sympathetic understanding of the developmentally disabled; tolerance; tact; and emotional stability.Drug Testing Requirement
Applicants for positions in these classes are required to pass a drug-screening test. Testing of current employees who are applicants in an examination or who are transferring is permitted only if the person does not have a current appointment to a class for which drug testing is a requirement.EXAMINATION INFORMATION
The examination will consist of a Supplemental Application. Candidates must attain an overall minimum score of 70% to be placed on the eligible list. The examination is designed to elicit specific information regarding each candidate's training and experience relative to the testing classification. Responses to the examination will be assessed based on pre-determined rating criteria.Supplemental Application Weighted 100%

The BEHAVIOR SPECIALIST II (BS II) examination is being administered as a Departmental OPEN examination for the Department of Developmental Services (DDS). This is a Training and Experience (T&E) examination and consist solely of a Supplemental Application and accounts for 100% of the examination. Applicants successful in the examination will be placed on an eligible list, which will be used to fill vacancies at DDSHeadquarters only.
The examination is designed to elicit a range of specific information regarding each classification. The score a candidate receives is based upon an evaluation of the responses provided in the Supplemental Application. The examination utilizes a predetermined rating criteria and an established rating scale. Applicants MUST read and follow the directions on the following pages and complete and submit the required documents for acceptance into the examination.
