relaxed, nature-based feel. Perth has 19 beaches to choose from, each with its own atmosphere but all o?ering superb sunsets over the Indian Ocean and
great swimming. Sur?ng, ?shing, beach volleyball, parasailing, wind-sur?ng and yachting are the major river and sea sports.
Perth people take to sport like they do to water. Thousands take part in the annual City to Surf fun run and the Avon Descent, Australia's greatest white
water event. Australian Rules football, soccer, cricket, golf, basketball and horse racing top the list of spectator sports.
Northbridge and Fremantle have been joined by a number of other café pulse points including Leederville, Subiaco, Mount Lawley, Victoria Park, Ned-
lands, Claremont, Cottesloe and the city. Outdoor cafes serving light meals from breakfast until supper can also be found at many hotels.
The waterfront is another lure for diners, with riverside restaurants clustered on the Swan River at Barrack Square, South Perth, Crawley, Nedlands, Mos-
man Park and Fremantle. Beachfront cafes hug the coast from Fremantle through Cottesloe to Scarborough and Sorrento Quay, while Fraser's Restaurant
and the Kings Park Tea Rooms are favourites with tourists for their views of the city skyline.From the city, head to the South West for world class wineries, luxury accommodation and forests of tall timbers. For history, heritage and high adventure,
head to the wide open spaces of the Golden Outback. Awesome marine life, endless white sandy beaches and the warm turquoise waters of the Indian
Ocean characterise the Coral Coast. Or if it's an Aussie frontier adventure you're after, head further north to the rugged Kimberley and Pilbara regions.

ABOUT THE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Introduction
Triathlon Australia and the City of Perth are honored to host the 2009 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships, to be held from October 22-25.
The last time the sport's premier long distance event was held in Australia was 2006 when Canberra, the nation's capital, played host. This time, Perth, the
capital of Western Australia, will welcome long distance triathletes from around the world to its idyllic location. Perth is acclaimed as one of the friendliest
and most attractive cities in Australia, with inner-city parks and the beautiful Swan River adding to the relaxed, nature-based feel.
Langley Park, ideally positioned next to the CBD on the foreshore of the Swan River, will act as the hub of this iconic event, which comprises a 3km swim, 80km
bike ride and 20km run. The testing event will provide a challenge to all age group and elite athletes, who will race for prize money pool of US$75,000.
Event Partnership
Triathlon Australia (TA), the sport's governing body in the country, is the proud event manager for these world championships and is responsible for driving
entry numbers and, ultimately, executing the event. To achieve its vision, TA has entered into a tourism event partnership with Eventscorp.
Eventscorp is the Western Australian Government's major events agency and a division of Tourism Western Australia. It boasts a proud history of developing
and delivering world class events that promote and enrich Perth and Western Australia. Eventscorp pioneered the Australian events industry and is recogn-
ised today as a world leader in its ?eld. The events attracted by Eventscorp promote WA internationally as a desirable and vibrant tourist destination.

COURSE INFORMATION
LOCATION
Nestled between Perth's CBD and the Swan River, Langley Park provides a prime venue to host the2009 Perth ITU Long Distance World Triathlon Championships. This long expanse of open space will
act as the hub of the event, hosting the start, ?nish and transition area.COURSE PROFILE
The 3km swim will take place in the Swan River, with entry via steps. With the race site20km from the ocean mouth, the river in this area is usually calm with minimal current.
The average water temperature in October can range from 16-23C. The 80km bike leg will be a loop format, beginning in Langley Park and taking in the spectacular sights of Perth's CBD and Swan River. The exact route is yet to be con?rmed. Once it is approved, a map and video footage of the course will be posted on the ldworlds.org.au website. The 20km run leg will be a loop format. It will be a predominantly ?at run along the foreshore of the Swan River.WEATHER
For the majority of the year, Perth sees ?ne and sunny weather. Even during the short mild winter, the sun is often shining. Spring begins in September,
and from this time on the temperature rises quickly, especially from October and November when the weather is generally ?ne and rain is usually minimal.

Entries for the 2009 ITU Long Distance World Championships (age group and elite) must be made through an athlete's national federation. Each federation
sets its own quali?cation criteria for age group and the elite teams. Please contact your national federation for details on your relevant application process.

Entry for each event is AUD$280.
SELECTION RACES
As part of the selection process, athletes are required, where possible, to participate in the nominated selection events relevant to the campaign they
have applied or intend to apply for. It is up to each athlete as to how many selection races they compete in as part of their intention to gain selection for a
campaign.PRIZE SCHEDULE
Athletes will contest a US$75,000 prize pool. This amount will be evenly allocated across the male and female elite event, although the distribution of
placegetter prize money is yet to be determined.POLICY DOCUMENTS

EVENT SCHEDULE
The event schedule begins with registration on Wednesday, October 21, 2009. Athletes will have the chance to register throughout Thursday is, along with
participate in the parade of nations, pasta party, entertainment and ITU reception.Friday will see the beginning of a competition-packed weekend, with the commencement of junior races, corporate teams and twilight events. Age group
and other junior races will be held on the Saturday, with an evening program providing entertainment. The World Championships will culminate on Sun-
day afternoon, with the elite men's triathlon followed by medal presentations and a closing ceremony.

Perth's central city shopping area is a designated tourist precinct, which means that department stores and many other shops are open seven days a week.
Shopping hours in Perth City are 9.00am - 5.00pm on Monday to Thursday and Saturday. Late night shopping hours extend until 9.00pm on Fridays while
on Sunday most shops are open from noon until 6.00pm. Fremantle also has seven days a week shopping.Family Fun
Perth has a range of activities and attractions for a fun family day out. Why not visit one of Perth's wildlife parks, beaches, educational centres or participate
in some cultural and historic activities. Local Visitor Centres, community newspapers, libraries or Hotel Concierge Departments, can all provide more infor-
mation on events and activities around Perth that are suitable for children and families.Dining Out & Nightlife

Perth Hills, you'll ?nd a new emerging wine scene nestled amongst the Hill's spectacular scenery. South of Perth in the Peel Region, you'll discover more than
20 vineyards, many of which welcome visitors to taste their vintages. There's also the Chittering Valley Wine Trail to explore north of Perth, along with the
nearby area around Gingin where the fertile plains nurture a whole host of produce, ranging from wines, olives and citrus fruits to lamb, beef and honey.
Arts & Culture
Perth city and the surrounding regions are alive with a rich and vibrant tapestry of history, art and culture. There is also an extraordinarily rich traditional
and contemporary Indigenous culture, which encompasses all art forms including dance, music, visual arts & crafts, literature and oral history. The Western
Australian Museum and the Art Gallery of Western Australia both maintain major exhibition galleries on indigenous culture and life in Western Australia.
