REPORTING FRAMEWORK

ABOUT THE APCO FRAMEWORK

The APCO Packaging Sustainability Framework (the Framework) aims to provide a consistent and transparent framework for

assessing and tracking packaging sustainability across organisations. The Framework consists of thirteen independent criter

ia that belong to three separate categories. These categories are (i) Leadership, (ii) Packaging Outcomes and (iii) Operation

s. The diagram above shows the different criteria included within each of these three categories. There are two types of criteria within the Framework:

‡Core criteria are mandatory and must be answered by all Members when completing the Annual Reporting Tool.

‡Recommended criteria are not mandatory, but Members are encouraged to complete as many recommended criteria as

possible.

APCO is a co-regulatory, not for profit organisation that partners with government and industry to reduce the harmful impact

of packaging on the Australian environment. APCO promotes sustainable design and recycling initiatives, waste to landfill re

CASE STUDIES7-Eleven continues to support the Closed Loop coffee cup recycling program through sponsorship, advertising, collecti

on points and social media. The program has expanded during 2019 and this is described in our Case Study below.

In 2019 7-Eleven signed up to the PREP Tool and ARL via APCO and we are working towards assessing our current pr

oducts against the Tool to form a baseline measurement. During 2020 we expect to begin moving our labelling for recyc

ling to the ARL approach as each product is assessed.

7-Eleven are constantly assessing new and refreshed product lines for the ability to include recycled content, improve r

ecyclability or reduce the amount of packaging. However, food safety standards and packaging quality often restrict our

ability to make changes.
