s tandort leistet und freuen uns, in diesem Jahr eine herausragende ausgabe des Festivals vor- - - > die OberbürgerMeister i n 2015, for the sixth time already, our three cities are presenting what has become the biggest cu rated photography event in germany. curator urs s tahel was gained in order to develop a concept for this festival and its seven participating ven- ues. under the title, [ 7P ] - [ 7 ] Places, [ 7 ] Precar- i O us fields, the festival is presenting 44 interna- tional positions in the metropolitan region. s ince it began in 2005 the fotofestival has made itself a name as a highly regarded photography biennial. the festival is backed by a growing cul- tural network which connects the three cities and their art institutions with one another. at the same time it exemplarily symbolises the diverse partnerships in all branches which make up our region's cultural life. through the presentation of outstanding photo art and through the excit ing supporting programme, a wide audience is brought into contact with the artistic medium of photography. the festival gives rise to cross-city dialogue. as a forum for debate on current pho- tography topics it is not only firmly rooted in the region, but also attracts maximum attention be yond the metropolitan region's borders. we are convinced that fotofestival Mannheim- l udwigshafen- h eidelberg renders a crucial contribution to the rhine-neckar metropolitan region's image as an attractive location and are delighted to be able to introduce an outstanding edition of the festival. - - > the seniOr MayOrs g ru wort word of welcomegrußwortword of welcome - - > dr. Particularly as the organisers have opted for an intensely political and current theme:

Precarious circumstances in our modern society.

i n the age of migration and globalisation, national and geographical boundaries are losing their significance. categories such as 'homeland or abroad' or 'own and foreign culture' are dissolv ing. instead of this, new boundaries are emerging or solidifying: between those who have a share - of ownership and power, of dignity and law - and those who are excluded from this. i welcome it very much that the organisers are embracing this theme at this year's fotofestival. c ontemporary photographic and video works make these new boundaries, lines of separation, differences known in an exceedingly powerful way. a rt is unable to solve politico-social problems, but it can render a contribution to critical confron tation: by posing questions, seeking, probing, prompting, stirring the emotions, perhaps even provoking. i wish the individual events and the festival as a whole interesting debates, new find- ings and great success. - - > theresia bauer - - > tHeresia Bauer Ministerin für wissenschaft, forschung und kunst des landes baden-württemberg Minister of science, research and art of the state of baden-württemberg 7P d ie themenstellung des 6.
