Conduct researches in imaging and printing systems and image/video processing algorithms for applica-

tions in mobile imaging, image sequence processing, web printing and analysis of large set of images.

Solving challenging low-light problems in mobile imaging

Made contributions to low-noise color correction for wide band color ¯lters, noise ¯ltering, deblurring and

compression artifact reduction. Since the low-light problem is a very challenging problem in mobile imaging,

the approach has been to tackle the problem with a series of technologies such that the gains or incremental

performance improvement of each technology adds up and lead to signi¯cant improvement in low light

performance. Developed image/video analysis algorithms to detect photographs with quality issues and estimate the degree of degradation for enhancement and restoration. Noise ¯ltering for challenging photos with realistic noise from unknown source Low noise image processing methods (color correction, contrast enhancement and sharpening) Image stabilization and enhancement for mobile imaging via multiple captures Blur estimation and deblurring via dual captured images Alleviate compression artifacts in images captured for mobile imagers Automatic assessment of focus quality of digital photos

Analysis of noise characteristics in digital photos and estimating noise pro¯les directly from images

Fixed pattern and random noise removal for calibration in projector-camera systems Image/video processing for image sequences or a large set of images

Made contributions to motion/optical °ow estimation and correspondence matching for applications such

as multi-frame image enhancement, augmented reality, camera calibration and image retrieval. Developed
