Act 2000. Your request

You asked:

- How many complaints has Ofcom received about the platform London Real since it was launched?

- How many complaints did Ofcom receive regarding the London Real interviews with David Icke? Our response

It is first relevant to distinguish between London Real as an online platform providing on-demand programmes at londonreal.tv, and London Real as a programme which has been carried by the linear television broadcaster, London Live. On demand and linear broadcast services are subject to different regulatory regimes, and we have interpreted your first question as referring to the former and your second as referring to the latter.

We have received five complaints about the

platform London Real, four of which relat ed to interviews with David Icke, however none of these complaints raised issues under the rules for On

Demand Programme Services.

We received 48 complaints from viewers who were concerned about potentially harmful statements made by the guest, David Icke, on the programme "London Real: Covid-19", broadcast on the television channel London Live on 8 April 20201 . We published our Decision that the programme included potentially harmful content about the Coronavirus pandemic in breach of Rule 2.1 of the 1

Broadcasting Code and imposed a sanction directing London Live to broadcast a summary of our findings on 20 April 2020. We considered whether imposing any further sanction to the Licensee in addition to the above direction would be appropriate in this case. We concluded that the direction it had already imposed on ESTV to broadcast a statement of its findings was sufficient in remedying potentially significant harm to viewers and that any further sanction would not be appropriate in this case.
