The Interpersonal Speaking portion of the AP French Language and Culture Examination consists of a single simulated conversation. The simulated conversation integrates two skills simultaneously: listening and speaking. Before you begin the conversation you will have an opportunity to read a general prompt about the conversation and then to read an outline of the conversation. In each conversation, the recorded speaker will initiate the conversation, and you will respond based on the cues printed in the outline. You will be expected to respond in five separate instances. You will have twenty seconds to respond to each. Although you will see a prompt and an outline, you will need to recall instantly a wide range of vocabulary to properly execute the conversation. Try to take your clues for gram- maticality (verb forms, tenses) from the speaker. Most conversations will be of a role-play nature, since not all AP students share the same experiences. You should do your best to be creative and to answer each question completely. Phrases such as "]e ne sais pas" or "Cela m'est 6gal" do not assist the scorer in evaluating your knowledge of French. Try to get into the role and use appropriate vocabu- lary. By getting into the simulated setting and putting yourself in the situation, you can play as though the situation were real, pretending you are carrying on a conversation. You do not need to say things that are factual or real to your life: simply say something that is appropriate to the situation and that responds to the stimulus. The important part is to say something that demonstrates your ability to speak French. The conversation topics are general, but stem from the topics listed in the curriculum framework for AP French Language and Culture.SECTION 2 | Free ResPonse 197
