The National Institute of Oriental

Languages

and Civilizations is a large public institution of higher education and research. Inalco's mission is to teach and research the languages and civilizations of Central and Eastern Europe, Asia,

Oceania, Africa, the Near and Middle

East. and peoples of the Americas, as well

as history, geography, societies, political and economic systems, realities and cultural developments in the countries concerned.

Public university institute under the

supervision of the Ministry of Higher

Education and Research having the status

of large institution, Inalco (formerly

Languages

O ') is the direct heir to the

School of Oriental Languages

founded by the national convention in 1795.

Over the centuries, Inalco has become a

unique institution in the world, welcoming students and teachers from all walks of life. No institution offers in the same place such a diversity of courses, such expertise and such wealth of knowledge about the world today.

In total, more than one hundred

languages and civilizations are taught in the framework of national diplomas (bachelor's, master's, doctorate) and establishment diplomas. Anxious to promote the integration of its students into the labor market, Inalco has also developed career-oriented courses in the fields of international business, intercultural communication, language teaching, international relations, computer-language-multilingual texts.

The institute also offers courses tailored

to the needs of individuals, businesses and public services. MAIN PROGRAMMES OF STUDY11 departments (Africa, South Asia, South East

Asia and Pacific, Japan, China, Arab Studies,

Eurasia, Hebrew Studies, Russian, Central and Eastern Europe, Americas), license LLCER, 5 professional streams from L2 (management and international trade, international relations, language didactics, automatic language processing, intercultural communication),

8 masters' degrees (LLCER, 2 'International

Business' masters, 5 'language trades' masters).

RESEARCH

Research at Inalco combines cultural and

disciplinary fields. Their crossroads, particularly innovative and scientifically fruitful, concern languages and civilizations that occupy today, more and more, the center stage - Africa, Middle

East, Asia, until the Arctic - and which are at

the heart of the major issues of our century.

The research relies on 15 teams, often in

partnership with research organizations, a high- level doctoral training, and international presses.

It also benefits from a project engineering and

valorization system.

With 15 research centers, Inalco develops a

research policy rooted in scientific collaborations with its national and international partners.

With a unique profile, characterized by the

articulation between disciplines of human and social sciences and cultural areas, Inalco is in charge of all mixed research units in the Paris

Areal Linguistics and concentrates renowned

hospitality teams such as the CNRS and IRD.
