Development consent is required for any new business premise s or sometimes when there are alterations to an existing one. Beauty salons cannot be carried out as exempt development under State Environmental Planning Policy (Exempt and Complying Development Codes) 2008. This means a Development Application (DA) needs to be lodgedwith Council via the Planning Portal. If your beauty salon will be providing beauty treatments involving skin penetration (e.g.
waxing , piercing, tattooing, cuticle cutting, any other procedure where the skin may be penetrated or removed, or any other procedure prescribed by the regulation such as colonic lavag e) then additional construction standards will apply (See below section: GeneralConstruction Standards).
Submission Requirements
For Council to assess the proposal, a Development Application together with the applicable fees and the following information is required to be lodged at thePlanning Portal Platform. 1. A simple site plan showing all existing and/or proposed buildings, signage and client/staff access and parking arrangements is required in addition to other standard plans and
documentation for a DA. If signage is proposed, a basic dimensioned signage plan should be provided. A floor plan (at a suitable scale i.e., 1:100 or 1:200) showing the location of the equipment washing sink, the hand wa shbasin (separate to the equipment washing sink), and existing or proposed fire safety measures (smoke alarms, emergency lighting, required exits etc.) will also be required as part of a DA. The floor plan must show the proposed lay out and fit out of internal rooms, partition walls for beauty rooms, treatment tables, etc. A basic operational statement addressing the following matters: Any liquid/ chemical/ trade waste storage and disposal,Expected water demand/usage by the beauty salon,
c. Safe storage and disposal of contaminated wastes, Proposed sterilisation and disinfection regime for equipment and processes (if skin penetration procedures are not being done a benchtop steriliser will not be requiredAll reusable equipment must be cleaned
