7/2016

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.

- Grammy Award-winning jazz trumpeter Chris Botti, along with his ensemble of renowned jazz artists, will hold their very first public performance at IU Auditorium with a special

Homecoming concert

on Saturday, October 15 at 8 p.m.

Botti has become the largest-selling American instrumental artist since the release of his 2004 CD, When

I Fall in

Love, and has gained acclaim in the contemporary music world as one of its most innovative artists.

Botti developed his style of jazz while s

tudying at the Jacobs School of Music with the likes of jazz educator David Bake r and trumpet teacher Bill Adam. His powerful musical imagination led to the release

of several chart-topping jazz albums - including To Love Again: The Duets (2005), Italia (2007), and the

CD/DVD Chris Botti in Boston (2009). His latest album, Impressions (2012), won the Grammy Award for

Best Pop Instrumental Album in 2013.

Starting

his career playing alongside Frank Sinatra and Sting, Botti has sold more than 4 million albums and recorded and performed with some of the brightest stars in music, including Tony Bennett, Lady

Gaga, Josh Groban,

John Mayer, and Yo-Yo Ma - further establishing himself as an important figure in the contemporary music world . His style of jazz is praised as an expressive sound that transcends the limits of any single genre.

"Chris Botti's performances are awe-inspiring. He and his ensemble create a concert experience that is

both engaging and intimate - making it perfect for both jazz enthusiasts and popular music lovers alike,"

said IU Auditorium Director Doug Booher. "It is an honor and a privilege to welcome Chris back to IU and to have the opportunity to share his incredible talents with the Bloomington community."

During their stay in Bloomington, Chris Botti and his ensemble will be leading educational activities with

students from the IU Jacobs School of Music. In addition, Chris Botti has been chosen as a 2016 recipient

of the Distinguished Alumni Service Award. Each year Indiana University recognizes outstanding alumni who

are leaders in their chosen fields and also make significant contributions benefiting their community,

state, nation, or university. The Distinguished Alumni Service Award the highest accolade reserved solely
