1 In 1982 the Historic Center of Cuenca was declared National Cultural Patrimony, in recognition of its transcendental value to Ecuadorian culture. Since then there have been special regulations governing any modification in the historic downtown area. 2

The municipal classification system identifies this house as belonging to Architectural Value A (VAR A)(3), based on its exceptional

contribution to the cityscape, the block, and the area where it is located. In addition, its aesthetic, historic and social significances are taken into consideration. Ordinance for the Maintenance and Conservation of Historic and Patrimonial Areas in the County of

Cuenca, 2010.

This emergency was decreed for Ecuador's material and immaterial cultural patrimony, in the face of its destruction, abandonment
