What is iris paper folding?
What is iris paper folding? In a fun coiled pattern, you layer and tape down colour-coordinated strips of paper or fabric onto a cut-out shape to create a camera lens appearance. Your cut-out shape can be anything from a simple circle to a flower to create your wonderful design.Is iris folding easy?
Iris folding is actually a pretty simple paper craft technique that requires very little skill. Just make sure you're using a professional iris folding template (pattern) with matching pattern guide. It's pretty much as easy as paint-by-numbers, just with pretty papers instead- Iris folding is done by arranging and layering strips of paper or fabric in a spiraled pattern that resembles the iris of a camera lens–that's how this craft got its name.

Satin Finish paper
Light printable card
Copier paper and Scrap cardstock
Pearls
Ultimate Pro
Iris-folding template (free download)
Craft Knife
Collall Tacky-Glue
Red liner tape
Low-tack tape
Kimono frame template (free download)
1. Print patterned paper from the CD-ROM onto Centura Pearl cardstock and the kimono frame onto the
reverse.2. Cut along the bold lines of the frame, keeping the wide strip from the end of the card.
3. Print the iris-folding template onto copier paper and stick to your work surface using low-tack tape.
4. Lay the kimono frame face down over the iris-folding template so that the white side is showing.
Adjust it until you can see all the numbers and letters. Fix in position using low-tack tape.5. Print four of the papers from the CD-ROM onto satin-?nish printer paper, cut 3cm strips from each one
and fold over the edges.6. Decide which of these will be A, B, C and D. The numbers on the iris-folding template show you the
order to work in. The letters show you which paper to use.7. You are working on the back of the design, so you need to have the back of the papers facing you. Start
with 1A. Lay the folded edge of paper A along the edge of this section, covering it completely. Trim o?
any excess at the top or bottom and stick down using double-sided tape.8. Now do the same for 2A, then 3A and so on. Keep working in number order, using the paper indicated,
until all sections have been covered. Use a square of paper to cover the hole in the middle.9. Remove the low-tack tape, then score and fold the lines as shown on the frame.
10. Use the triangular tabs to stick the sides of the frame together and fold the bottom pieces over.
11. Cut a 17.5x13cm piece of scrap cardstock and stick to the bottom of the frame to encase the iris
folding inside.12. Create the kimono sash from an 11x2.5cm strip of printed cardstock and an 11x3cm piece of one of
the papers. Fold over 0.5cm on each edge of the paper before sticking it to the card front. Attach to the
inside of the frame using tacky glue.13. Decorate with elements from other sheets on the free CD-ROM, printed onto Light Printable
cardstock.14. Create a card blank by printing one of the papers onto another sheet of Centura Pearl cardstock. Print
a contrasting paper on the reverse if desired. Score in half.15. Create another strip in the same way as the sash, this time making it the entire width of the card, and
stick this across the middle of the card front.16. Stick the kimono frame onto the card front and embellish as desired.
