ANNOUNCEMENT FOR NEW POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

MSc in Computer Science and MSc in Information Technology Management

The Department of ICT, Faculty of Science Technology and Environmental Studies (FSTES) is

delighted to introduce two new postgraduate programmes MSc in Computer Science (MSCS) and MSc in Information Technology Management (MSITM) The Department has scheduled to offer the programmes from January 2020. Thereafter, the Department will continue to enroll students twice per year; April and November. . Please find below detailed information regarding the programmes:

1. Duration of programme

MSITM duration is 18 months. There are three (03) semesters for coursework (9 months) and

remaining 9 months for project/dissertation. Arrangement of semesters and teaching subjects are as follows: 1 st semester OCS 601, OIM 601, OIM 602 2 nd semester OIM 603, OIM 604 3 rd semester OCS 607, OIM 605, OIM 606 and dissertation proposal preparation

2. Mode of Delivery

Delivery of both masters will be blended-mode (face to face and Moodle). However, please note that:

In regional centres there will be one (01) scheduled face to face per semester for duration of 1 week.

Hence, there will be three (03) scheduled face to face sessions for coursework.

In Dar es Salaam, there will be one (01) scheduled evening face to face per semester for duration of 2

weeks. Hence, there will be three (03) scheduled face to face sessions for coursework.

4. Entry qualification

MSITM: The minimum qualifications for the Master of Science in Information Technology Management shall be a Bachelor degree in all fields related to Information Technology Management subjects. (a) For admission to the Master of Science in Information Technology Management degree of The Open University of Tanzania, a candidate shall either hold a BSc ICT or BSc in Data Management degree of The Open University of Tanzania or a qualification from an approved institution of higher learning, deemed to be equivalent to a degree of The Open University of Tanzania of not less than

GPA of 2.7.

(b) Candidates with PASS division will also be considered for admission if: (i) Their undergraduate performance in Information Technology Management related subjects was a B grade average or above; and (ii) They have satisfied the ICT department and the faculty in general that they have

MSCS The Master of Science in Computer Science is a mixed mode programme and consists of taught courses

and a dissertation. The programme consists of a total of 18 Units. Candidates must complete and pass

6 core courses with a total of 12 Units and a Dissertation with 6 units. The dissertation is compulsory

to all candidates. There are two streams leading to MSc in Computer Science which are Information Systems and Cyber

Security (the different streams will only be reflected on Transcripts, but the Certificate will read MSc

in Computer Science). Both streams will share 5 core courses. However, specialized courses will be selected based on the stream. Furthermore, the candidate must produce a dissertation that is in line with the chosen stream.
