1. INTRODUCTION

This Guide will help you to use the Family History collection at the Cloverdale Branch of Surrey Libraries. The books and microfilms in the collection are available for use in the library only. The family history magazines may be borrowed with a valid library card. There are several public microfilm and/or microfiche readers and to make sure one is available, you may call ahead at (604) 598-7328 or email familyhistory@surrey.ca. Printing from the microfilm readers is 50 cents per page. Bring change! for individuals and families who were residents of Canada. We do not have any microfilmed records for Britain, Europe, USA or elsewhere, although we do have some books on family history research in other countries. We have a subscription to the Ancestry Library Edition database allowing us access to international information electronically which is available only at Cloverdale Branch. We also have additional databases: Find My Past, Heritage Quest, and Scotland Places. This guide is organized by topic and then by location. Included in each section are website addresses for online resources that will help you with your research. Print resources are also included that may be searched in the library catalogue, either in the branch or from home through our website: www.surreylibraries.ca Library staff will be happy to help you with appropriate subject headings for searching the catalogue. Also check our website for the most current version of this Guide which is available online. Many microfilms and books not in this collection are available for loan from other institutions. See Section 14.A for more information on interlibrary loans.

Electronic Resources

Cloverdale Library has a few CD-ROMs containing genealogical information. The binder at the genealogy internet station lists all of the CD-ROMs that we have. It also contains information on how to use each one. Ask Information Desk staff for help with logging onto the computer. Note: The CDs and databases below cannot be borrowed or copied and can only be used while at Cloverdale Library.
