6Summary of Activities
September Marketing Teacher/DECA Advisor In-service. In-service is an opportunity for teachers to get updates and
information that will help make this a successful year. Registration materials are located on your flash drive and DECA
website resource page. Meeting place is usually in a central location.October/November Fall Leadership Conference - The focus is on leadership skills for chapter officers or leaders in
your local chapter. Registration materials are e-mailed and available on the South Carolina DECA website.
November PowerTrip Conference - Members who attend will not only experience the best leadership training for
having a successful chapter but will also have the opportunity to learn from local business leaders who know what it
takes to have a successful career in the fields of entertainment and hospitality. Registration materials are distributed
by national DECA and available at www.deca.org. Registration is handled by individual chapters online with National
DECA.December/January Regional Qualifying Events. The four regions of SC DECA hold a qualifying event for the
Individual Series Events. The top eight qualifiers from each event move on to the state level for competition. Each
region has a host chapter. Registration materials come directly from the host advisor. The SC DECA website will post
information as soon as it is available from the host advisor. Online testing will occur at each school before the Regional
Qualifying Event. Interviews will occur during the Regional Qualifying Event.February SC DECA Career Development Conference. This conference is used to identify the winners of competitive
events who qualify to represent South Carolina DECA at DECA's International Career Development Conference. SC
DECA members attending this conference will compete with other DECA members from across the state. Registration
materials are e-mailed to advisors and posted on the SC DECA website.April/May International DECA Career Development Conference. DECA members from US, Canada, Puerto Rico,
and Germany participate in competitive events, leadership academy, and workshops. You must be a participant at our
State CDC in order to qualify to attend ICDC. Registration materials are distributed at the SC DECA State Conference.

7Online Membership Registration
For South Carolina DECA
DUESCHAPTER INFORMATION
DUE DATE FOR Initial Membership Roster DUES - NOVEMBER 151. Each chapter will enter their information online. Please refer to the file on Online Membership Instructions.
2. To be an active SC DECA chapter, you must submit your initial roster by November 15.
3. Failure to submit your initial roster by due date could result in ineligibility for competitions.
4. A single check for state and national dues should be made out to DECA, Inc. Purchase orders are acceptable,
however, the roster will not be processed until the actual check is submitted. The dues are as follows:
National State Total
High School member 8.00 + 8.00 = 16.00
Advisor 8.00 + 8.00 = 16.00
Alumni 8.00 + 12.00 = 20.00
Professional (business advisor) 8.00 + 12.00 = 20.005. All paid members of State DECA must also be paid members of National DECA. This includes professional
division members. All advisors must join the professional division.6. You will receive membership materials via mail. Please allow 3 to 4 weeks for processing and mailing.
7. The State Advisor will be notified when a chapter registers online. The State Advisor will be able to login and
check information for local chapters.8. INITIAL ROSTERS MUST BE SUBMITTED TO DECA, INC BY NOVEMBER 15. Any roster received
after this date, will be charged $5.00 for the chapter. No exceptions!9. In order for your chapter to compete in South Carolina DECA Regional events or the State DECA Conference,

8 Listed below are important policies and dates regarding DECA membership that should be noted by your chapter.DEADLINES:
A. Due date for initial roster and dues are November 15. A late fee of $5.00 per chapter will beassessed after that date. Additions to rosters can be submitted any time after the initial membership
registration. Dues must be paid by November 25 for all members to be eligible to participate at Regional competition. To be eligible to participate at our state conference dues must be paid by January 1. Final roster must be submitted March 1; in order to be eligible for competition at theInternational Career Development Conference.
B. Collegiate chapters: The initial rosters must follow the same guidelines as the high school division.
Member additions to roster must be online by February 15, in order to be eligible for competition at the International Conference.POLICIES:
A. Minimum Chapter Size: All chapters in both the Collegiate and High School Divisions must pay minimum dues to DECA, Inc equivalent to at least ten (10) members or have 100% membership in order to receive DECA, Inc services. 100% membership refers to 100% of the students enrolled in a marketing education program at a high school or post-secondary institute.B. Purchase Orders: DECA, Inc will accept purchase orders; however, the chapter's membership will not
be processed until the actual check arrives. When the online registration has been completed, you will
print a roster which is to be used as an invoice for the purchase order.C. Dues: National dues are non-transferable and non-refundable. If a student member changes schools,
in-state or out-of-state, a written notice must be sent to the state advisor and the membership division
of DECA, Inc giving the school, city and state of both the old and new schools. D. Students on semester or block schedules may join DECA. Dues may be paid when the student is enrolled in your class. Membership is for the entire school year. Block schedule memberships must be postmarked prior to regional competition in order to be eligible to compete. E. Students who are in a Marketing Education program of study may be members of the high school division of DECA provided the student has not graduated from school. This allows students from the ninth grade through twelfth grade to be DECA members regardless of which year, semester, or blockthey are enrolled in a Marketing class. Students should have a four-year plan on file with the guidance
department at the start of the ninth grade indicating their program or major. Also, students enrolled in
any Marketing and Business class may join the DECA high school division for that year regardless of when the actual class occurs. Membership is valid for the entire school year. All membership will be done online. No rosters will be mailed out to individual chapters in South Carolina. 14 CONDUCT CODE
Participation in SC DECA activities provides an opportunity for students to interact with adult DECA supporters
from business a nd industry, fellow me mbers and the general public. As a re sult of establishing a positive,
professional image, many businesses, civic organizations and individuals provide financial and human resources to
DECA and its members. Should you have a question concerning what constitutes acceptable behavior, ask your
advisor prior to making a decision. Maintain DECA's reputation! The following Conduct Code is enforced at all
DECA functions.
Level One Violations: The following have been identified as extremely serious violations of the SC DECA
Conduct Code:
1. Violation of any city, state or federal law.
2. Possession, consumption, transporting or purchasing of any alcoholic beverage or illegal drug. If alcoholic
beverages and/or illegal drugs or evidence of their use are found in a hotel room, all occupants of that room will
be subject to the penalties prescribed below. 3. Defacing, damaging or stealing public or private property.
4. Failure to attend conference activities, including competitive events, general sessions, and special meetings.
5. Males in female 's room o r females in male's room w ithout an open door and permission of a chapter
advisor/chaperone. 6. Missing curfew by more than 15 minutes. Curfew means being in your assigned room with the door closed
and quiet. If you are not staying in the hotel, curfew means you have left the hotel grounds by the stated time.
7. Throwing any objects from a hotel window, balcony or vehicle.
8. Inviting or having unregistered individuals in your hotel room or at a conference activity.
9. Rudeness or insubordination.
10. Dishonesty of any kind on competitive events to include cheating, plagiarism or lying.
11. Repeated occurrences of Level 2 violations.
12. Violations not mentioned; as identified by the advisor, chaperone, staff, and/or school official.
Level One Penalties:
1. Expulsion from the conference.
2. Notification of parent or guardian.
3. Notification of school official.
4. Student and parent/guardian must immediately arrange and pay for alternative travel plans to return home.
5. Forfeiture of awards, scholarship, grants and future opportunities to participate in SC DECA activity.
6. Other penalties at the discretion of the advisor, chaperone, school official, or state staff.
Level Two Violations Less serious violations, but if repeated violations occur the student may be subject to
penalties similar to those prescribed for Level 1. 1. Failure to follow the above SC DECA Dress Code as described above.
2. Smoking in public during the conference.
3. Failure to wear identification badges during the conference.
4. Tardiness to conference activities. If tardy by 30 minutes or more, a Level 1 penalty applies.
5. Leaving the conference site without the knowledge of your advisor or chaperone.
6. Missing curfew by less than 15 minutes and by not being in your assigned room with the door closed and
quiet. 7. Disturbing other hotel guests by excessive noise, door slamming, etc., which results in a complaint to hotel
management. Two complaints result in a Level 1 penalty for all occupants of the room or facility. 8. Violations not mentioned above, at discretion of advisor, chaperone, state staff or school official.
Level Two Penalties:
1. Disqualification from competition and/or conference.
2. Verbal and written warning and immediate compliance with conference rules.
3. Notification of chapter advisor and state staff.
4. Repeat violations or another violation of a Level 2 Code may result in Level 1 penalties.
Please Note: All dress and conduct code rules will be enforced by individual's local advisors, Board of Director

14CONDUCT CODE
Participation in SC DECA activities provides an opportunity for students to interact with adult DECA supporters
from business a nd industry, fellow me mbers and the general public. As a re sult of establishing a positive,
professional image, many businesses, civic organizations and individuals provide financial and human resources to
DECA and its members. Should you have a question concerning what constitutes acceptable behavior, ask your
advisor prior to making a decision. Maintain DECA's reputation! The following Conduct Code is enforced at all
DECA functions.
Level One Violations: The following have been identified as extremely serious violations of the SC DECA
Conduct Code:
1. Violation of any city, state or federal law.
2. Possession, consumption, transporting or purchasing of any alcoholic beverage or illegal drug. If alcoholic
beverages and/or illegal drugs or evidence of their use are found in a hotel room, all occupants of that room will
be subject to the penalties prescribed below.3. Defacing, damaging or stealing public or private property.
4. Failure to attend conference activities, including competitive events, general sessions, and special meetings.
5. Males in female 's room o r females in male's room w ithout an open door and permission of a chapter
advisor/chaperone.6. Missing curfew by more than 15 minutes. Curfew means being in your assigned room with the door closed
and quiet. If you are not staying in the hotel, curfew means you have left the hotel grounds by the stated time.
7. Throwing any objects from a hotel window, balcony or vehicle.
8. Inviting or having unregistered individuals in your hotel room or at a conference activity.
9. Rudeness or insubordination.
10. Dishonesty of any kind on competitive events to include cheating, plagiarism or lying.
11. Repeated occurrences of Level 2 violations.
12. Violations not mentioned; as identified by the advisor, chaperone, staff, and/or school official.
Level One Penalties:
1. Expulsion from the conference.
2. Notification of parent or guardian.
3. Notification of school official.
4. Student and parent/guardian must immediately arrange and pay for alternative travel plans to return home.
5. Forfeiture of awards, scholarship, grants and future opportunities to participate in SC DECA activity.
6. Other penalties at the discretion of the advisor, chaperone, school official, or state staff.
Level Two Violations Less serious violations, but if repeated violations occur the student may be subject to
